The Sharks have recalled defenseman Taylor Doherty from their American Hockey League affiliate in Worcester, CSNCalifornia.com has learned.

The 22-year-old Ontario native is a six-foot-seven, 235-pound stay-at-home type rearguard, with three goals and five assists for eight points and 85 penalty minutes in 37 games with Worcester this season. He has yet to make his NHL debut.

A second round pick of the Sharks in 2009, Doherty, a right-handed shot, was one of the last players reassigned to the minors in training camp in September.

Defenseman Scott Hannan remains on injured reserve, although he was available to play on Monday against Calgary, according to coach Todd McLellan. Hannan suffered a reported head injury after taking an elbow from Detroit’s Daniel Cleary on Jan. 9. He played on Jan. 11 against Boston, but has missed the last four games.

The Sharks, winners of four straight, host Winnipeg on Thursday.
