The cover may be blown on the location for the Sharks-Kings outdoor NHL game in the Bay Area this season.
According to Yahoo Sports’ Harrison Mooney, for three hours on Saturday a link on Ticketmaster.com allowed fans to purchase tickets for the Coors Light Stadium Series game on Feb. 21 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara. If that location is correct, it's consistent with what a league source told CSNCalifornia.com earlier this summer.
Although the NHL has not made any official announcement yet about the game even being outdoors, it was reported here in June that the Sharks were likely to get an outdoor game for the 2014-15 season. Furthermore, the Sharks-Kings game on Feb. 21 is already set to be broadcast nationally on the NBC Sports Network, and is the only date that would make sense for an outdoor game between the rivals.
Levi’s Stadium, the home of the NFL’s 49ers, held its first event on Saturday night when soccer’s San Jose Earthquakes hosted the Seattle Sounders.
The stadium has a seating capacity of 68,500, much bigger than AT&T Park in San Francisco, which was the other option. Football stadiums also provide much better sight lines than baseball stadiums, something that’s also taken into consideration by the league when it plans these games.
