Tommy Wingels has officially signed a three-year, $7.4 million contract extension with the San Jose Sharks. The contract carries a cap hit of approximately $2.47 million annually.
News of the extension was originally reported over the weekend by CSN California’s Brodie Brazil. The Sharks are expected to make the announcement shortly.
The contract represents a nice raise for Wingels, who is coming off of a breakthrough season in 2013-14. The 26-year-old, who had 16 goals and 38 points in 77 games last season, just completed a two-year, $1.55 million deal. The Evanston, Illinois native led the Sharks with 218 hits.
Wingels was qualified as a restricted free agent on June 30.
