McGlinchey welcomes fellow Notre Dame product Banks to 49ers

Welcome to the NFL, Aaron Banks.

The former Notre Dame guard was drafted by the 49ers the the No. 48 overall pick on Friday after the team traded down with the Las Vegas Raiders.

Banks' new teammates already offered up some congratulatory tweets, including another Notre Dame alum and current 49er Mike McGlinchey.

The two have a lot in common. Not just from a university standpoint, but both are offensive linemen, and both sported the No. 69 last season.

I wonder if there will be a conversation on who will continue wearing it, though as a rookie, Banks more than likely will lose that battle.

49ers tight end George Kittle also welcomed Banks to the team.

So did Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly:

Banks, a Bay Area native, is an impressive 6-foot-5, 325-pound and is strong in the zone-blocking game. He's expected to start immediately in 2021, which will just strengthen their offensive line after the 49ers re-signed Trent Williams to a record-breaking, six-year, $138.06 million contract. He became the highest-paid offensive lineman in the league.

It appears Banks already is fitting in with his new teammates.
