Lance's elite speed showcased by this story of TD run

Trey Lance didn't run a 40-yard dash at all leading up to the 2021 NFL Draft, but that doesn't mean his speed should be in question.

Lance told NFL Media's Mike Garafolo back in March that a GPS tracker measured his top speed on a touchdown run to be 21.54 miles per hour, which would have ranked 12th in the NFL among all ball-carriers, and the fastest speed of any quarterback in the league.

The run came in the 2020 FCS National Championship against James Madison, a 44-yard touchdown scamper in the fourth quarter that ended up being the difference in securing North Dakota State its third consecutive national championship.

Adding to how impressive the above run was is that it was third down, with the Bison 23 yards away from the first-down marker.

Lance got all of that and then some on the play, eventually going on to win the Most Outstanding Player award in the championship game.

Kyle Shanahan hasn't had a dual-threat QB of Lance's caliber in years, and the 49ers' coaching staff likely is salivating at the idea of refining the offensive scheme for him.

After seeing his ability to break away from defenders in the open field, there shouldn't be any questions that Lance can scoot.
