How Steelers adding Trubisky impacts market for Jimmy G

The list of trade destinations for Jimmy Garoppolo is getting smaller by the day.

On Monday, at the start of the NFL's legal tampering window, the Pittsburgh Steelers agreed to a two-year contract with Mitchell Trubisky, NFL Media's Mike Garafolo reported.

Pittsburgh was always thought to be one of the most likely landing spots for Garoppolo. With Trubisky heading to the Steel City to be the starter, the list of quarterback-needy teams has thinned over the last week.

The Denver Broncos acquired Russell Wilson. The Washington Commanders rolled the dice on Carson Wentz. Tom Brady announced Sunday he would be unretiring after 40 days to rejoin the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The New Orleans Saints and Carolina Panthers reportedly will meet with Deshaun Watson as the Houston Texans look to trade the star QB after a grand jury declined to charge him last week.

The Saints, Panthers, Indianapolis Colts and Seattle Seahawks currently are the four teams that are in the "need QB" category. Seattle acquired Drew Lock as part of the Wilson trade but most expect the Seahawks to add a veteran QB to camp to compete with Lock.

There's always the outside chance a team like the Miami Dolphins or Cleveland Browns gets into the QB market. But for now, the 49ers are running out of takes for the 30-year-old quarterback.

On Monday, NFL Media's Tom Pelissero reported that the 49ers' asking price for Garoppolo was "likely a second-round pick and more." With free-agent options Marcus Mariota, Teddy Bridgewater and Jameis Winston on the market, it's hard to see a team meeting those demands for Garoppolo, who underwent shoulder surgery last week.

The Colts are the best fit for Garoppolo. Indy's roster is ready to win now and Garoppolo's leadership abilities will be valued by the Colts after the Wentz experiment fell flat last season.

The 49ers still could find a taker for Garoppolo, but their options are limited after the Steelers chose to sign Trubisky rather than trying to work out a trade for Garoppolo.
