Linebacker Oren Burks announced on social media he will be joining the 49ers after spending his first four seasons with the Packers. The deal is two years for $5 million, reported ESPN.
The open negotiating period opened Monday morning. Teams are allowed to officially sign free agents from other teams beginning Wednesday at 1 p.m.
Burks entered the NFL in 2018 as a third-round pick from Vanderbilt.

He appeared in all 17 regular-season games with three starts last season. He registered a career-high 36 tackles.

Burks has made his biggest contributions on special teams, playing more than 75 percent of those snaps over the past three seasons.
Burks currently is in line to be the 49ers’ fourth linebacker behind Fred Warner, Dre Greenlaw and Azeez Al-Shaair.
