49ers snap count: Matt Breida, Tevin Coleman give club two No. 1 backs

SANTA CLARA – San Francisco 49ers running back Tevin Coleman returned to the field Monday night after a 2 1/2 game absence due to an ankle injury.

Matt Breida did not give up his starting role with Coleman's return. But what became apparent in the 49ers’ 31-3 victory over the Cleveland Browns, is the 49ers now have Nos. 1a and 1b in their backfield.

“We expected him and Breida to get the most (carries),” 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said of Coleman after the game. “I don’t know how it ended up, though.”

Coleman carried 16 times for 97 yards and a touchdown. Breida had 14 touches. He had 11 rushing attempts for 114 yards, including a game-opening 83-yard touchdown run, and three receptions for 15 yards and a touchdown.

Breida and Coleman were on the field for 26 plays apiece. Raheem Mostert also saw plenty of action, playing the 49ers’ other 24 offensive snaps at halfback.

Fullback Kyle Juszczyk continued to be a big part of the team’s offense. He saw action on 34 of the team’s 52 offensive plays before exiting late in the third quarter with a left knee sprain.

Juszczyk left Levi’s Stadium with his leg in a brace. He is scheduled for an MRI examination on Monday. He said he did not know the extent of the injury, but all indications are that the injury is not a season-ending ACL tear.

On defense, the 49ers harassed Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield with a rotation of eight linemen playing 11 or more snaps. DeForest Buckner played 43 snaps. Nick Bosa and Arik Armstead played 38 and 37 snaps, respectively.

Bosa became the first 49ers player in the past 25 years to record two sacks, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. He also forced an intentional-grounding penalty of Mayfield.
