SANTA CLARA – Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo’s debut with the 49ers came unexpectedly with 1 minute, 7 seconds remaining in Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks.
Up until the point starting quarterback C.J. Beathard remained on the ground with a left leg injury, coach Kyle Shanahan said he gave no consideration to making a change at quarterback.
“If I felt that was because of the quarterback, I would have made a change,” Shanahan said following the 49ers’ 24-13 loss to Seattle.

Garoppolo entered the game long enough to run for 4 yards, and complete both passing attempts for a total of 18 yards, including a 10-yard touchdown to wide receiver Louis Murphy on the final play of the game after scrambling out of the pocket.
Beathard is scheduled to undergo an MRI examination on his left knee and hip on Monday to determine his availability for this week’s game against the Chicago Bears. Shanahan said he was in no rush to make a decision on when to start Garoppolo for the first time.
“We’ll watch this tape (Monday), work with him Monday and Tuesday and see what happens in practice for Wednesday,” Shanahan said.
He added the brief playing time Garoppolo experienced on Sunday will not carry much weight in determining Garoppolo’s readiness to step into the huddle and run the 49ers’ offense for an entire game.

“No, those plays have nothing to do with anything,” Shanahan said. “That’s just running around and made a great play, but those have no bearing on it at all.”
Garoppolo was not the only player to make his debut with the 49ers on Sunday. Just days after the 49ers claimed Sheldon Day and Cassius Marsh off waivers, they played 30 and 27 plays, respectively, as part of the 49ers’ eight-man rotation on the defensive line.
