Report: Deebo, Mostert expected to play for 49ers vs. Dolphins

Deebo Samuel missed two practices this week due to a non-COVID illness, but it appears the 49ers receiver will be good to play Sunday against the Miami Dolphins.

NFL Media's Tom Pelissero reported early Sunday morning that Samuel passed protocols and is expected to play against the Dolphins.

On Saturday, the 49ers elevated wide receiver Kevin White from the practice squad to be available to play in the Week 5 game in case Samuel couldn't suit up.

Samuel experienced flu-like symptoms this week but was not placed on the NFL’s reserve/COVID-19 list, meaning he tested negative. Nonetheless, coach Kyle Shanahan expressed his concern over any illness this season.

“Deebo was sick, so I think he was just a little achy,” Shanahan said to reporters. “I think he might have had a fever at night. Especially with flu season coming up, that's going to be common.

“But if you have symptoms, you're automatically out of the building, I think, for at least two days, because you need to pass two tests to confirm it's not COVID, and anyone who's been around you also needs to be out for those two days.”

Samuel made his season debut last Sunday after sustaining a Jones fracture in his foot over the offseason.

Running back Raheem Mostert could be back for the 49ers as well this week. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported early Sunday morning that Samuel and Mostert "should be good to play."

Mostert has missed the 49ers' last two games after spraining his MCL in their Week 2 win over the New York Jets. He had 148 yards rushing through two games.

This would be the first time Mostert and Samuel, two keys to the 49ers' offense, shared the same field this season.
