The NFL’s former Bay Area quasi-rivals are scheduled to meet in August for the first time since fan violence ended the preseason series nearly a decade ago.

The Las Vegas Raiders are scheduled to travel to Levi’s Stadium in the second week of the exhibition season to face the 49ers. The game is scheduled to take place from Aug. 20 to Aug. 24 in Santa Clara.

The annual preseason series ended after the Raiders and 49ers met on Aug. 20, 2011. During the course of the game at Candlestick Park, there were numerous fights in the stands. Two men were victims of a non-fatal shooting and another man was beaten unconscious in a restroom.

While the 49ers and Raiders haven't met in the preseason in nine years, they have played twice in the regular season since then, with San Francisco winning 34-3 in the last matchup on Nov. 1, 2018.

The Raiders are scheduled to play their first season in Las Vegas after returning to Oakland from 1995 through the 2019 season. The Raiders previously called Oakland home from 1960 to ’81 before moving to Los Angeles for 13 seasons.
