Kyler Murray's NFL contract worth nearly $16.6M more than A's offer

Kyler Murray made the right decision. At least in terms of his bank account.

The No. 1 pick in the 2019 NFL Draft signed his rookie contract with the Cardinals on Thursday, and it's quite the paycheck. Murray signed a fully-guaranteed four-year, $35,158,645 million contract with a signing bonus over $23 million.

That's a whole lot more than he would have made right away had he chosen baseball over football.

Murray signed a $4.6 million signing bonus after the A's selected him with the No. 9 pick in the 2018 MLB Draft. Before he spurned Oakland for a football career, the team offered him $14 million guaranteed in addition to the signing bonus, Sports Illustrated's Robert Klemko reported in early April.

A source told ProFootballTalk on Thursday that the quarterback's rookie contract states any baseball would void future guarantees. The same happened to current Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston when he was taken with the top pick in the 2015 draft.

Winston was a pitcher at Florida State while the A's drafted Murray as an outfielder coming out of the University of Oklahoma.

Murray chose to avoid pass-rushers instead of trying his hand at hitting curveballs. No matter how that decision ends up, he has more money in the bank right away.
