Giants coach Roberto Kelly pulled after getting hit by throw

LOS ANGELES — Third base coach Roberto Kelly was taken back to the clubhouse in the top of the seventh inning Sunday after getting hit by an errant throw. Kelly was wearing his helmet at the time, but felt dizzy after getting hit by a throw from Dodgers infielder Corey Seager that bounced into the dugout.

Kelly was said to be feeling better after the loss, and was expected to fly home with the team. He was to be re-evaluated Monday.

"He took a pretty good shot to the head," manager Bruce Bochy said.

Kelly, who is in his second year at third base, missed most of spring training with a strained calf. Sunday’s incident rings all too familiar with the Giants, who have lost Brandon Belt and Gregor Blanco to concussions in recent years after they got hit by throws from infielders. Kelly sustained a concussion during the 2012 postseason when he was hit in the back of the head by a line drive during batting practice.

Assistant hitting coach Steve Decker took over in the third base box.
