UPDATE (4:02 p.m. PT): 49ers running back Matt Breida, wide receiver Pierre Garçon and tight end George Kittle were not listed among the inactives, so they will play Monday night against the Green Bay Packers.

The original story is as follows.

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- All indications point to 49ers running back Matt Breida playing Monday night against the Green Bay Packers.

The 49ers did not promote a running back from their practice squad by the 1 p.m. PT deadline in order to be available to suit up for the game at Lambeau Field.

The 49ers did make a transaction Monday, though, as they promoted tight end Ross Dwelley. To make room on the roster, the 49ers waived defensive lineman Ryan Delaire.

The move to promote Dwelley suggests the 49ers figure to be down a tight end for the game against the Packers. Cole Wick was on the field during workouts with the 49ers' inactive and practice squad players.

George Kittle was listed as questionable for the game with a knee injury, and he took part in limited practice throughout the week, but Kittle is expected to be available for the game. Kittle leads the 49ers with 23 receptions for 399 yards and one touchdown this season.

The 49ers would have carried another running back for the game if they determined Breida would not be available to play. The only other running backs on the team’s 53-man roster are veteran Alfred Morris and special-teams ace Raheem Mostert.

Breida did not take part in practices Thursday or Friday because of a left ankle sprain he sustained on the final play of the first quarter last Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals.

Coach Kyle Shanahan originally stated Breida would be doubtful to face the Packers. But Breida was upgraded to questionable on the team’s official injury report after going through limited practice Saturday before making the trip to Wisconsin.

Breida has rushed for a team-high 369 yards on just 49 carries. His 7.5-yard average is the best in the NFL among players with at least 20 rushing attempts.

Rookie Jeff Wilson would have been promoted from the practice squad if the 49ers felt the need to have another running back available for Monday’s game, a source told NBC Sports Bay Area. The 49ers signed Matthew Dayes, a second-year pro from North Carolina State, to their practice squad last week.

The 49ers and Packers must submit their list of seven inactive players by 3:45 p.m. PT. The 49ers will make a final determination at that point on their list of available wide receivers.

The 49ers have planned to give slot receiver Trent Taylor a week off to allow his problematic back some time to improve. Shanahan said Saturday on “49ers Game Plan” that Taylor would not play. He is listed as doubtful.

But veteran wide receiver Pierre Garçon also is questionable with shoulder and knee issues. If Garçon is deactivated, the 49ers likely would have Taylor suit up for the game but plan on playing him sparingly.
