Thursday morning, three-time volleyball gold medalist Kerri Walsh Jennings and two-time women’s soccer gold medalist Brandi Chastain helped the students at San Jose’s Archbishop Mitty High School send off one of their own: 15-year-old U.S. figure skater Polina Edmunds.

Edmunds made the Olympic team after finishing second to Gracie Gold earlier this month in the U.S. Championships in Boston. She is a sophomore at Archbishop Mitty, which is where Walsh Jennings and Chastain went to school as well.

The U.S. Championships were her first senior event after claiming success this year in the junior Grand Prix ranks. She is one of the most prominent American Olympians to have a link to this year’s host country of Russia, where her mother grew up.
