Hard to believe -- good football resumes in a matter of weeks or northern California cal hosting northwestern on the last night of August followed by Stanford and San Jose state opened up their season on the farm the following. Saturday evening. All the talk about the Bay Area brain trust of college football this past to be as we -- joined -- by the trio of Sonny -- from -- David Shaw from Stanford and coach strong character of Tennessee State gentlemen it's a pleasure thanks for doing this all together one time. The problem for me and Dave let's begin with feel being eager to most established at Bay Area coach of the to hear of the 323. And four. At Stanford in the last two years. Is the motivation with your program to just keep things going the way they have and especially coming off the bowl win last year. The big thing for us we we never talk about sustaining we talk about -- we talk about striving. Now we talk about playing great football and we have success when a surprise for success to work extremely hard. But last year was was back behind this than the trophies are in the trophy case where they belong. And now we start just like everybody else 00. With the desire to be because of football team we can be. Sunny welcome to the Bay Area obviously your first season in Berkeley you guys have relatively brand new stadium new facilities is kind of has to be like. Get any keys who really nice expensive car the hit a driver that is just an exciting time McCallum and you know the with the addition visited California memorial stadium are fantastic to me it's a beautiful venue it's -- great setting really because spot for college football and he did a great job -- facilities and so it's it's it's a great time of the calendar and it. We're excited she's started. Runs a similar opportunity for you down at San Jose state here at Bay Area guy I believe you're a born and Redwood City grew up in the south day. If this is like a perfect opportunity for you. To coach in any area that you Brooklyn went to high school it is exciting I grew up going to camps that San Jose state in the back -- -- though it was coaching -- Gilbert and but the high school few miles from Spartan Stadium so. Really exciting for me to come back and have a chance to to coach in N Bay Area so rich in football tradition that coaches that have been here. And just to be a part of it in the lead the spartans program as we we charge on in the Mountain West Conference really exciting time to get brand new times for you guys down -- -- -- -- wanna. Talk about teams here and specifically -- Taylor obviously a tough guy to replace rushing the football. How -- you guys to go on without him and I've heard you're gonna have more of a collective effort and individuals no question. When you people use the phrase running back by committee yeah we actually see that as a positive we exit a bunch of guys who think to play. Talent -- to come back from bit from baseball. Has been huge lift for us is 220. Pounds big physical kid is excited about it back to football Anthony Lucas and but 2152 big physical guys that can pass protect which is huge for us again he'll run the ball who else pass protect. We have some young guys spirited Sanders and -- -- some guys that we believe have a chance to some things from -- possible to a -- Coach thanks in Berkeley do you have the right person now to immediately run the -- air raid offense that you ran in Louisiana Tech this upcoming season. Yeah I think -- you know it's always about making your your style play in your office that you personnel and that's what we do pretty good job of adjusting changing. Putting guys in position to be successful so you know we've got a lot of different body types at the wide receiver position is excited we can we can be really diverse as a result of that. Got some exciting young running backs -- Brendon Bigelow coming off of an injury guy we think has a chance you're pretty special so. You know we get open -- the pieces for the right place and -- we -- we had a chance have a pretty good offense -- Tennessee State run you've got the most accurate passer in all of college football for David fails how do you. -- expectations. Realistic for him because now I think there's a lot more attention immediately it's more pressure on him this year -- going into -- definitely. We know the bar's been raised 2013 season moving up to the Mountain West Conference. That the schedule that we play in David's got some areas of his game he can improve he came in and you know how often you see a first year guy come in and have such success that he had last year but. David much like the team no one season doesn't mean we've arrived. We still have higher goals higher ambitions as a program to sustain that success so I -- I know David will lead the charge in and the team will follow it. Coach on a personal level I'm back in December there were a lot of rumors and speculation that maybe you lead Stanford and had the National Football League. Why does Stanford continue to be the right place for you thought. For me it's different it's. My dad goes to Stanford twice in seven years in the ninety's I went to school there. It's the most. Most of their religion or place in my life it could just to move around botched going on my seven -- there at Stanford there was no way I was and we. That's why it myself conversing worked hard to make sure we got -- extension done before the end of the season so we can by pass much those rumors. I never actually took a call from anybody in the NFL. There was there's no desire and there is no desire for me. And then there's no mystery out their -- have been initial have been in nine years I love what we're doing -- Stanford don't want you to listen -- That's one of the most straightforward answers I think it ever got for many -- in terms of coaching -- where they might go and and there's something how about for you and you you talk about cal football and just had heard obviously. -- to the program for so many years and how Long Will it take for you to honestly feel. And saying. This is the way. That I want the program to look and feel this is Sonny -- program now how long does it take from -- timeline perspective realistic. Well -- those are those are questions -- -- can't really answer me that the great thing about our about our players is that they bought in and they bought in from day one practiced number one and so in a lot of ways we feel like it's our program. You know there's always some changes that you have to make -- some things you have to get established a little bit different than they've been done in the past. But that you know credit everybody cal they've given us the resources that we need to be successful the -- from the players has been great the passion from the fans has been there. That's a really all the ingredients are there to have a great result and had a great team on the football field so. Do we were young football team in the very challenging schedule but we do feel like there are a lot of lot of opportunities out there and put a lot of good players and so we shut them all together and get to go out perform at a high level. Coach Carroll called close it out with you guys you mention before first year in the Mountain West Conference you also had six nationally televised games of the season for your program that's huge. You also opened up a personal Twitter account from last couple months I guess animal putting together here. This is the time for your program kind of capitalize isn't it definitely the opportunities there they had some nice success last year. We know that -- some challenges and our past San Jose state they've also been some great times some great coaches. Bill Walsh speak for meal. Bob Ladouceur some great coaches have gone through that program. It's an honor to lead this program and really exciting for them. Where we are as a program but to continue that down the road all right gentlemen -- Certainly appreciate the time and all three you guys best of luck on this season will be pulling for all for your team it's.
