Outside of the Oakland coliseum kind of a couple of -- starters Brett Anderson and at Dallas -- getting up to drop -- a few thousand Rivera. Closest friends but -- Brad Kassell listen suspense throughout spring training who was going to be the starter was -- time where you thought. You were gonna be in the opening night starter. Well I didn't really think too much but I assumed season a hard time of the day I think she had all five of us don't know what -- tell -- one time or another so. You know -- kind of waited until the end and you know terror coming up not was he deserves. The one guy I don't think it was in the -- with a was with a parade with a ten ERA in my friends and easily made birdie and asked him but you are they had the -- you're guarding at the -- -- some thought. Opening night is that is that a bigger deal. Than any other game by far to pitch on opening night. I don't know that it's necessarily a bigger a bigger deal -- can be a bigger game but. The feeling that that you have knowing that an entire organization an entire fan base and your teammates are looking -- you. To get. Your team off on the right foot that. That's that's a huge. Huge badge of honor to be able it took to -- on Jackie you really you really like to wear that one around and has -- said Trevor Cahill with his ridiculous performance. All year last year and -- in my opinion undoubtedly deserved the nod as long as it was going to be healthy now do you guys that I probably had started the way things well actually not. Just give a little thumbnail sketch as your little older than the other guys when you look at his dad. Ngo I think is Jay was good last year but they have a breakout year even more so this year and Trevor. What what what you see these three young -- you've got to -- -- now. I I think it's awesome let's let's start with the fact that Trevor Cahill is without a doubt way more left handed and anyone blustery. It is weird dude in every -- it is now all all I've gotten any better because. It's a big leaguer he got Toledo collection really cute Star Wars fans out there just is -- the election. She's. But no I mean. Brett I mean I mean you're talking about one of the best talk if not the best left handed breaking ball combos in all of baseball GO if wanted to interchangeable and K -- the guy throws sixty pound bowling ball sinker is up there -- for hitters to try to put in play good luck have fun with that. -- I don't know about the leg Uggla to another show last night chronicle and a 436. GPA. Yet in high school -- Yeah he's acknowledges his highland spring training was showing me his. The sun blockers car Star Wars those silent spring training is like homelessness and I was like what he'd do on your point three in the big leagues you have -- some years. You know advisors Star Wars don't like that point it's -- or -- -- -- -- lost now do you know you're not gonna bring him I GOP's Jeter to me. When he learned to come down. He really became an accomplished pitcher dies for our stuff he may have the best stuff of anybody on this staff. Dallas what what -- Ngo Gonzales this year. Does that transfer. -- he's made from a guy who would do you know you get thrown ball water you give up the give up the first hit for the first walker first run and it all comes unraveling you know I had did try to just get did it across to him that hey. No matter if you just given up ten and there's nobody out that's the first inning. You still have the ball in your hand. You're still the guy you still run the show and you need to act like that any need to believe it and you know you do get your butt kicked quick. We're gonna start dealing quick but what are the -- you need to have confidence in it and I think that's where he's really turned the corner is he really believes in himself now. -- the -- Trevor Cahill technically is a right hander he may have the left handed brain but he stuck nuclear write a pathetic goes you. And it goes GO and I go Jewish cities starters 234 -- left handers on the media makes a big deal. About it the Billie loves his his lefties I've ever a couple of years ago we had five hours left handers in the rotation is not a big deal to you. We don't -- is gonna go after UNN Dallas at the sese lined up to go Friday Saturday Sunday against the the same team that give them an edge in three straight lefties. No I don't think so could go pitch a little bit different you know I've. Nixon -- pitch Nixon and -- GO comes after you if you know the hitter hard -- fastball and hammer curve ball and then. Dusty can -- the soft stuff is his fastballs and look even slow minority is that coming in GO and I. So that it is. You know its legacy as three different looks. He's gonna throw that pep people on done it brought -- but I'm okay with it they get that they give the petrol in the gasoline in the big. This guy from from those dudes and I committed just -- to -- you just gotta be in the Oklahoma. No I like Baylor got hit hard hard again yourselves gentlemen Tommy John -- the the Sundays is guys in -- but he's gonna Sosa begin parents -- have you guys hang together as a group. Yeah yeah absolutely when we're when we're out on the road. And we're doing our thing that's that's when we really find that. Cohesiveness. Billy comes loot comes into play were go to dinner -- in a good check got a movie -- -- the mall before the game whatever we got going on. On the floor you'll just got to hang together wherever you are there's yes there's always hang together for some reason yeah -- got that way in you know kind of got a bond the last couple years and I think McCarthy -- the -- -- of -- In our little group in you know it's just one time. Did you ever Brandon McCarthy had a chance to meet him for the first time ever remedy came up with a White Sox years ago that strong. 67 throwing downhill now is more of a sinker slider trying to gain ground balls housing affinity they jealous. He -- he's gonna be great a very welcomed addition I mean -- -- about a guy with five plus years of experience that was battling for -- back into the rotation job. And I mean you know this starter for starter for starter doesn't matter the guy's gonna compete the guy's gonna give us exactly what we need and that's that. Reliable fifth option too -- lineup over 34 times with -- virtual ease because yeah I played catcher that I all spring long. And the cutter sinker curve ball I mean he was going eight innings in to a game like get his third start of the spring. I mean that the guys got it he's very cerebral he he knows how to attack pitching not just rolling but with pitching. Now he's a good guy we had a chance to meet him earlier New Year's Day one of the -- -- the -- that job he came to camp in shape every great staff that I have seen it. There was just a friendly competition. Among the guys we saw on the Giants last year which -- Cain and Lincecum. Do you guys have that where where is Trevor goes on opening night and maybe throws you know eight innings three hits and no runs. You feel a little bit and a Dolphin obligated to follow it up but at least such as well as he did the day before. Yes you know I think that that's what makes a schedule which matches better you know always -- Lester had a eighteen game quality starts there and you know you don't wanna be to got a break that streak sincere offices striving to put -- the same numbers if not better and with a guided previous U. And so I think this is for existing home -- level. And -- 61 guy gets off kilter they cannot get off kilter when your all. It rotation and and jive it and throw the ball well Delis you'll have fallen -- Yeah absolutely like like -- enemy hit the nail right on the head when you when Michael -- I'll watch. GO deal and then I watch Brett deal I wanna blocker too much what kicked -- and leave it up to the bullpen to clean up the mess I just slipped out there. So you you -- you know you wanna pick up where your boys left off that was shivered up somebody's backside. -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- He's got -- Annika evident early in the year this year I don't I don't give up my nose inside its schedule on an audience a book club driving Yankees are going to be your real face Alex Rodriguez this year. Well he -- So please this year that it is just try to hit about like always that's the name of the game right you know the end of our. Did you guys that your paths -- at all -- earlier. I understand that it literally -- he -- your fan but after that experience that -- he ever reach out to you would any moment. Try to put that one away. No absolutely not. I was not a way I've got zero earlier in the he wants he wants to get back at ground zero happens we'll see. What right of the year old not on a mile that never throw towards the head yeah he's taken dance I'll make it dance all right -- the one major change in his pitching staff to me -- the change the pitching coach. George young was here for a long time and the fans out here remember him as a very good pitcher rod romantic to -- seems more like Rick Peterson. Who was here earlier and you guys -- -- around that the more cerebral more crunching numbers you see it that way Dallas for -- being a pitcher was more feels he. -- -- -- it is going to be more clinical look at the tape and look at numbers that's. -- you know I've been fortunate enough club was drafted in 04 and romantic was our pitching coordinator our roving pitching coordinator saw. He's been with me every step of the way throughout my career so it's been a seamless transition into his role from. Coordinator to bullpen coach to now pitching coach so he's he's you know he's got a fingerprint pretty much on every single one of us he's he's seen us. Progress and come through the system so. Hit his approach is not something that's going to be lost on me I know that I got just in time have in the film room and crunch the numbers myself to be successful. And if he's going to allow us that opportunity on the field and kind of like a field general but with a little. -- in his back pocket to give you down a little bit of info that you might need that maybe wasn't there for you before. I mean I love but I love having that at our fingertips. Reggie grew up and a baseball fan -- had a long time for the coaching pitching coach what what kind of coach was she -- see more of field got a guy were Seymour the clinical. Numbers guy he's more of feel good guy and we're -- like Chris young and you know. Based off what the game dictated with how he's in and approach things up like that the outside being on the -- front -- and into Seattle this best of both worlds and I think that's kind of made changes mean -- to marriages given up many had a great year last year. I think the best is yet to come and this guy we'll have to see -- the spring behind and a great Dallas Braden. Thanks for playing along. They did Dallas Braden and Brett Anderson on here. Originally denigrating your division -- think he had to go.
