David DeJesus. It was going to be our product of conversation subject at a joins me now from a Phoenix -- Greg -- studio David welcome to chronicle live presented by auto trader dot com and how weird is -- -- to be putting on the green and gold of the Oakland days after all those years in the navy blue by the Kansas City Royals and and I it's been Davis Cup -- first. No but. I'm a big fan green yellow and why we -- -- Carolina and green yellow light in my it every day attire. But on you know just being with the Royals for ten years and -- that organization in coming over to a whole different you know a new organization it was it was kind of tough at first. But on you know just look at the lineup she'd have -- you know who's on the team that pitchers. And not the haters that they had and I was really excited to come over. Take him back to last July you weren't out of it and I'm still with Scott Podsednik Jose Indiana rumors about all you guys get traded every day in those other two guys did get traded. Jose to the Giants and that he had -- Giants -- -- -- as well he wound up going to the Dodgers but from what I hear that the Giants were gonna make a trade. To get chills and simultaneously you go back on that ball is Derek Jeter hit a Yankee Stadium and yet. Plunked in the wall -- toward tended to. And you're right thumb which obviously nullified any transaction what did you know about that Mike Joel Bennett giant thank you -- crashed into the outfield wall at Yankee Stadium. Com you know I was here a lot of rumblings of different teams. But there wasn't just the Giants and heard a couple other ones. But Tom we know it's one of those things that I'm on the play a 100% how many give everything out there. And so unfortunately. You know might Dunn got stuck in the wall pretty much into the and stuff. But down you know I think things happen for a reason I just had a newborn. And I was able to spend a lot of time without him in my wife's helping her out through the stages of you know when they're just born and then did some totally new for us but on the mound here many great -- love the guys on the team and -- I'm really excited about next year. Can you change diapers with a torn tendon -- your right -- did you learn that the one hand diaper changed David which I perfected years ago it. If -- I hang out at first -- felt like and let me do it when I had a cast on. But once I got the cast off. But why does like you're gonna have to make up for all those lost eight out of diapers and things like that stopped I'd definitely made up for it half. Boston I think presidency and that was after you at the trading deadline but not here. Now -- with the Oakland days I do wanna find out about what kind of a hitter. You are people are wondering are you a top of the order to lead -- type hitter which he hit almost 75% of your games with the Royals GM. Laid off the when did not lead off then he had. He hit number three so when a perfect world got Coco Crisp obviously your former teammate there -- you as well but in a perfect world that's. Where -- David DeJesus bat first second third or first somewhere else. Yeah you know I'm I'm not Latin managers I don't have to make that decision. But on the type of player -- -- not not not gonna change my game in this spot in the batting order now must have a guy that's gonna go to kind. Finding gaps -- trying get on base for the guys behind me and whoever I am I'm gonna do the same thing everyday prepare myself everyday the best that I can. And you know give my heart on the field because that's only way have learned I've learned to play the game. And Don that's always team can win at the end of the nine guys -- -- lineup that in a battle that pitch every day. You're one of those special challenge they can score runs and -- also a drive in runs I think they are gonna get you out of the number three hole to start it. Once that -- caught my eye whenever I look at a good hitter it's how he hits with two strikes in most hitters when they get to two strikes hit like a 128. Knew it actually 287. At. Last year with two strikes which was the best in Major League Baseball which allows you take pitches get deep into account how deal. Allowed yourself to be able to hit with two strikes David. You know let down -- you know early in the count you're gonna miss your pitches. But it's the mentality that don't let the pitchers don't give into the into the pitcher's gonna miss a lot of the time. And non you know we might have done too tough pitchers on the corners. But it's hard for him to throw three on the corners 30 hole at bat you know you're gonna battle -- -- how -- get a couple good pitches. And I'd just even the mindset that he's gonna have to get me out I'm gonna try and you know. Battled my butt off. To stay alive and trying to work the count get on base and you know as hitters we give the -- as a lot of credit you know but you know they still have to throw the ball over the plate. -- and non. You know my philosophy was going the other way stayed inside the pitch and and pitchers that they wanna do they wanna get you. So it's nothing can thank him and goes off the other way but you know five my plan to stay the other way I can pretty much. He may stand the played bigger and easier to cover. Has certainly has worked your career to 89 hitter you can go a little bit of everything's all right you grew up and out. He -- Jersey the state of New Jersey Jersey shore guy you're more -- immature high school years were in it. Jersey go to the middle western Kansas City and I come out. To the west also how is this -- adjustment going to be for you they had they had Jersey shore guy coming out to the Alameda short now. Yeah I'm excited you know I never really been out to the West Coast only never played up. You know they Angels so I -- I know that's near the shore all that are out here. But down. He knows. The West Coast he's pretty cool you know me my wife and my son are excited to go out there and see how it is. And I'm here a lot there's a lot of really nice areas and Walnut Creek. Yeah made area I'm not -- on his throwing names out there not really serve does alright but down. You know we're excited and now and we heard the weather and Oakland is kind of cool all at times so. I'm cool that because I like come fall. Clothing so that's that's gonna be -- -- -- remained. Brilliant yellow gold has got to like played said he is gonna fit in just perfectly here in the Bay Area David. Thanks for your time iconic alive and good luck with the unity in the Oakland a's this year we appreciate.
