-- -- new head coach of the Oakland Raiders -- bringing our chronicle conversations subject. The new head coach of the Raiders your -- to hear -- pop in studio and San Francisco congratulations to you and tell me well it was the first time did you -- officially. You're gonna gonna head coach of the Raiders. Yesterday. Probably about little bit before 4 o'clock. I said. Two days after the season was over mr. Davis decided not to pick up the contract to time cable. You that very day went across the bay to interview with the San Francisco 49ers tell me about that interview with the niners. First of all and what have you been doing they think and they got -- so until -- -- -- were named the head coach today yeah. Well obviously we still that we set themselves out to do we had to evaluate thirteen men and obviously they had an interview over in San Francisco and that was a great experience -- -- They're some great people over -- -- New York's turned balky. It's got a chance to spent about almost four hours with them. Just talking about philosophy and how to build a team and how to. Create a winning organization and that was really con. Didn't know exactly which -- that was going but I know I was coming back home in the was wishing for an opportunity to be able to talk to coach Davis about this opportunity. Why wasn't necessary for you and Al Davis to actually had a formal interview. Since the season ended Andy. Choice by mr. Davis to make it had obviously he knows you well he watched your body work issued to formally -- sat down and really interview for the job the way you did with the niners. I highly doubt I mean we had some very good discussions because I think is still important to make sure that the vision. The expectation. That everything's online no way that we wanted to be and now we did we had those conversations and it was great to sit there and again reaffirm. What it is that we're trying to create here at the Oakland Raiders. It was about 51 weeks ago when your first one and Al davis' office I know -- in Alameda and talked about any offensive coordinator. Of the Oakland Raiders and I -- you are less than a year later the head coach of the team -- tell me about that that first conversation what it was like to interview with Al Davis for a job -- Offensive coordinator this football team. Well they kill you with the interview because that I've been on a -- view we have opportunities to. Allowed cured transparencies and put them on overheads. And now we're coach coach or she did take that tanning get on the board ever really talked to him and take him through exactly what it is that you wanna accomplish. What is your scheme how you gonna get a block how is gonna work. How -- gonna put our players the environment you're gonna create for the players. It was a very extensive interview and obviously walking into that office -- office there's so much. Great tradition. In his room and that's a nice looking him. Off does that he has there but there's John Madden there's a pitcher Tom floors some of the greatest coaches that coach Bayern coach and Super Bowls so it was a lot of fun. You know what one thing Al Davis told Mayhew and -- -- ever share this idea that it. Just what you know months and months ago we're going back to when you first arrived for the OTAs last year he told me that. I can just talk to this guy. It's just a very easy given take to talk to him as the as the OC of the football team and you know coaching for Al Davis you've got to have a special relationship to him at the -- and you've got in Iraq with him why is it that they that you are with ease. -- able to talk to Al Davis. I think -- because -- I don't have I'm not intimidated -- situations. I know that there's going to be some things heading into it that we may not agree upon. But it's not. Disagreeable you know sometimes you can disagree on things but you have to be disagreeable. And I think that's the line of communication that has worked for me throughout my career. I don't know that coach feels that's what's best for him but I know that I've always. Since I've been here from the first day -- today have had an open line of communication -- him and I can talk about anything that deals with this football team and this organization. And it that your your offense certainly -- the talking for itself -- -- we go to their earlier huge improvement from Lester -- the Raiders scored seventeen offensive touchdown -- the whole year this year you had 37 on offense alone but I -- the one thing you -- is more consistency I go to the niners game last year which was a huge loss you guys did not score. A single. Touched out of all of that game kicked three field goals -- -- seventeen and I so my question is how can the Raiders being less explosive where you get 81 game in Denver and not in San Francisco and just be consistent week to week we scored. Four and five touchdowns every weekend. Well I think what we have to do is keep our players healthy. I'm sure you remember when we played San Francisco Darren McFadden didn't play but that's not -- excuse why we didn't play well we didn't play well that. Day and that's well documented but I think the key obviously is -- help of our football team they're going out each and every week competing the way we know how to compete. Obviously we're a team that loves to be physical and run the ball -- but we also like to make explosive plays down the field throwing. Darren McFadden at what one thing you did tell me last year when I first -- Q is that this guy is got to get to 2500 yards -- and -- 15100 rushing and a thousand receiving in missed three games due to injury the -- got him up over plus 16100 yards this year rushed for 1157 and eight and he caught 500 yards more. Where does this guy had to go in his career you how how good can he be. He can be as good as he wants to bet that I think disguising. Limit for the young man idea -- just scratching the surface of what I think Darren McFadden can be he's a very explosive runner beat them very good receiver out of backfield committee. Plays down the field. I think we're just happening how good he can be and I'm so looking forward to working with in the season. How much you wanna turn and hand him the football coach Tom cable always felt you had to have a lead horse but you've got Michael Bush and Al Davis articulated in the press conference that late in games certain teams -- -- -- is talking about the San Diego Chargers. Just don't wanna tackle this guy. I do you wanna have a kind of what Kansas City has -- Jones and Charles words more. Of -- call whopper bush gets more carries next year or do you feel like coach cable does he got to turn it and feed the ball to number twenty is much you can. I think both of these players that are very talented players and obviously Darren has showed his worth this season but so has Michael. I think we got two very good players that we -- -- and the ball to. We wanna play -- there's no question about that they both have strengths. But there's no question you know sometimes that's dictated on how to -- goals. Some guys hot and you writing and sometimes the other guy he's come in the game and take -- game over. I game management this is the first time in your career you've been around the game forever but you're never gonna head coach before. How do you prep yourself because you got a call your plays you're gonna have -- -- there are you gonna have the guys -- dollop the plays like he always do. But you never actually manage the entire game do you do you do you call on other coaches. How do you train yourself to be a good game manager because I think that pinky finger to winning a football. There's no question I think you gotta work out at. From mini camps to routier's during the pre season and through the season and I think you said -- very key point you have to have some very trusted assistants which you and that's what we're gonna have your -- and guys that I can lean on that I know that has been in these. Situations before. So that we can have success on them because you're right. Game management is so important in the national. Football how how soon do you -- around -- staff are you gonna hire any of offensive coordinator to go along with you -- you could have both jobs and what do you think it on the defensive side of the ball coach. I'm gonna have an offensive coordinator no question to to leave the offense when I'm not able to be there because I wanna make sure that I'm putting my hand on all over the football team as often as I can end because I -- bring the energy for. We're gonna have a defensive coordinator we're gonna hire one. Obviously we're going to that process now and I wanna get this stuff together as fast as I can't. But I don't wanna rush because I mean I wanted to stress like -- but I wanna make sure we get the right guy for the Raiders. Speculator year quarterback is Jason Campbell and Al Davis articulated that that he believes in and strongly and you have done likewise he was good not debate every single team in the AFC west this year he beat San Diego a couple of times in my question is obviously. Listening to Al Davis think today the raiders' goal is not to be 500 it's not to win the AFC west he wants to win a Super Bowls again it is Jason Campbell he'll good enough to to win a Super Bowl as the quarterback of the -- Raiders. There's no question in my mind that is what we got to continue to do is keep improving. And obviously we need to get better around Jason in everywhere. Like you said Darren McFadden has got to go play better than he did this past year our receiver in this got to play better than they did dispatched here we gotta protect our quarterback better and we did this past year and on defense we got played better than we did. So there's no question -- I think Jason has it. But we got to continue to create this environment for local football team to take him. And uplift him and make him the quarterback that he can be you were 75 as the raiders' starting quarterback Fisher came off the bench to help you beat San Diego selling five is. Not too bad should be good enough to win the AFC west next year -- Jackson congratulations to get a new head coach of the Oakland Raiders 'cause that went down well. Yeah.
