Transcript
Both sound -- of rarely get their first shot. Number 800 a milestone achieved by only four other women's coaches Thursday at number 24 DePaul -- Cubs a nationally televised game. Had never Tennessee on Sunday against Pat Summitt she may get 2045. And -- she's just about midway through -- Tremendous career and we welcome her and studio for the very first time on. Chronicle like -- ankle chimed in great thank you very much 800 victories have you have you wrap your mind around 800 gift. I know it's goes fast. I think that if from. If I look back I never would have thought that maybe I'd even be coaching this long but. On when you play or -- you have an opportunity to coach at a great university. -- with a great administration and I have outstanding assistant coaches and obviously. Really talented players and you know hey it can come along and I hope the well going way back when Antonio idea. He wanted to be a lawyer to -- paragraph in your right side. How did you get directed in this crazy proficient -- well say went home a Christmas I ran out of money in my parents said you know an artist and house -- gonna coach your sister's Chaman. So I did I help coach my sister's team and I realized I wanted to coach of the collegiate level and you know this was I was -- kind of -- title lying on student and then with title nine opportunities for women came along and I was very fortunate my timing was excellent for coaching. -- 647 -- your victories for even I don't know what cheered it's Stanford of the 079 united have so far. I do not ask you about about last year and the leaves -- two losses. Did you know when you kinda got them coming up on the schedule before the end of the year. Do you ever get over loss like that especially the second one when you're in the final when you're playing so well you're leading so big at halftime you. Ever a given that I'm good enough snapping you know giving it over -- like that. I mean it would force so I'll winners we're so prepare we played very allow. Bomb and then a second half they played better and I just I love coach -- -- team Jayne Appel wasn't such a warrior Boris. Ros gold only and gave everything she had. You know our players I just love cushion at Stanford and I have never gonna complain about being in a national championship game. You know playing for a national championship on backs on -- -- be for someone else but I'm so thankful for the opportunities and to work with me. Caliber of women I work with. On that you know put me there every year. And you you take out all -- you're gonna appear to take did you age you know on the Greg UConn Huskies coming up December the thirtieth at a convention at. On this trip to get Tennessee coming up on -- few programs -- play coach Summitt and culture Arianna. I know we might be the only ones -- both Tennessee and UConn in the same season were also playing Xavier which was -- we're very fortunate to go to the final four week. Pulled it out -- four point four seconds to go -- Poland took it full court. Scored on a lay up and I and we want to the final four but on our players are extremely competitive. On they realize this is December so why not play great teams went -- learn about our team. Now let's see what we have let's see what we need to work on and this is a great team to coach there they're very receptive to. You know I -- coaching what do we tell them to do just say rest and work on this and I've seen great improvement. -- who knows -- you guys may be the ones to break. You got tremendous streak in if they do win this weekend against Ohio State 88 of their ruling at a time the great John Wooden teams of the early seventies at UCLA. The telling about his team this year though present here and that this year's team it is beatable. Well it UConn has a great a great team and I think. You know tremendous credit to. The coach geno Arianna who have won this many games ago undefeated. -- two seasons in a row is is outstanding. And they have on ascending players -- warm and they have a they have a young team this year they lost. There on center Tina -- in the dubbed W a game in fact offensive rookie of the year. And she's an outstanding player. Unfortunately they lost another player to injury but our team with -- -- knack Obama -- -- nailed them okay. I Kayla Pedersen we've been right there and were -- were ready to play anyone and our team is not intimidated. We're very excited to have. UConn playing at Stanford on but we have a lot of games before NASA worn out looking forward. And does UConn barely beat Baylor earlier this year about one point so this is the year I think you can stop the streak at one of the games you have before on the schedule is USF. And Jennifer raising your your great player who I -- your first real star. And the program and we veteran studio right after she was named the head coach on the Hilltop and ask -- about playing UN playing Stanford which you said. We're not gonna fly on the other they're so good we're not gonna do that yet how to do cancer who convinced her that Stanford should play USF this year. Well we it was on we had contract and it was on -- we had scheduled the game and it was so late it's really hard to pick up other games at that point. And I and I I and I just have to Jennifer really -- up to it was up to her it was her decision. And I think she -- you know why not exposure team -- when you get the number two team of the country are number one team in the country coming in. Why not expose them to that and I think she understood that it was a good thing for her team in good thing for her program that would bring fans up there and you know I'm extremely supportive of Jennifer I think she's just an outstanding person. She did put Stanford basketball on the map along with Sonja Henning and -- standing her one of her assistants. And you know why not why not let us help her so that's how I look at it. And it is on it is going to be a challenging game for their team but our team is gonna have to come ready to play on a Jennifer will have already. She'll be excited -- -- -- -- exciting times on the farm obviously with you going for number 800 that you -- ask you about Andrew Luck in the way the young man. Comported himself on -- Saturday and I was very classy classy young guy that he had a chance to spend much time with the with the Stanford quarterback. Well -- I'm -- Andrew talked on when he first came to Stanford and you know as a kind of just this summer when he came to summer school on I've I've talked some sense and -- were very fortunate to have not just Andrew Luck but I Jim Harbaugh what a tremendous job he has done. You know putting Stanford football at the very top to compete for national championship on.
