Transcript

For our Giants -- the National League Championship Series for a fifth time they keep bringing up Bob Roberts had a -- -- -- using it to within three homer game came back for the fourth over the back Willie -- -- -- -- bid for. Number one flap down -- latter was the MVP in a losing cause of 474. -- but Giants didn't score in game six and seven at. Data that of course was will Clark against Mark Grace but the wild thing. And it 2002. On the very same amount that in Atlanta they advanced to the National League Championship Series it was Kenny Lofton. Who drove an attic Larry -- remembers the most recent one because you were with the team that a Larry back from a the charter in Atlanta. How what was it like I'd take me right from the moment the final -- record of the Chicago catches that ball what was the ensuing at twelve hours like for you -- -- it. Think this regular might be a little bit of the last time we won in the first round in Atlanta which was 2002. -- and affect us and JT snow on the -- about this. Mr. Graham all the JT this is 2002 rebel JT stepped on first threw to second really tagged the -- there was a double play. But nobody knew with the people they know the game was over is bases loaded he was over. On this play. Last night. Juan's throw sailed a little -- and Travis Ishikawa. Was a guy was was able that it flag it down and stay on the base but we were there was a delayed reaction shall -- shall we say that. And it was spectacular I have to say. Very proud of the players in that while they did the team is somewhat straight celebration on the mound then turned right to the dugout and saluted Bobby Cox. And that was it was the right thing to do wasn't scripted obviously. But it was it was a lot of leadership that a lot of integrity of that. But -- little wild in the -- so anyway I'm from it was a just spontaneous the way the crowd was reacting to Bobby and Bobby coming out waiting that the players just realize that we we have to stop here and give tribute to the straight man. Well couple things happened so the scoreboard after the after the final out shifted the body close of the body. So people which are geared that way. And then you start hearing -- mounting applies -- -- from the from the crowd for body and I think the players notice that. Oh chin and body are are pretty close and they've been you know that it had their forever as managers long time. And in a lot of respect and mutual respect as as Bobby said today I think -- last night in so. It was any it was a really a great moment it was great moment because it was during baseball's interest -- You don't have sound like hockey where the game and there we go dude does the line and shape in the NBA. I shake hands after last time -- Hillary and I run and got. And it football coaches are coaches are supposed to singletary Diego okay selanne led by drew most of the time. -- baseball it doesn't kind of because of the configuration you're an opposite dugout screen ads. In this was this was -- really nice tip of the cap after a well deserved tremendous side to miss. And is the president of the organization you have to be proud of the way your your players are here on field staff handle that. I really want that you get back in the clubhouse and this is your second celebration in nine days. And tactically -- You really didn't win anything that could be a banner saying you beat Atlanta the National League division series there's the NL west and maybe the national league championship and -- National League pennant and the World Series but you know out of this so -- Obviously they were thrilled to -- by it. But was at the same revelation that you had when you beat San Diego to win the division. I. Think it's different -- -- first of all there's no minimizing the accomplishment huge accomplishment to win a short series that can go the other way so quickly. But I think after a 162. Game grind there is a catharsis. Affect. No matter. How it comes out how how you did that we did in game 162. In -- how you do it whether you clinched two weeks earlier not. There's that 162. Just is is is just the mere sheer weight of that many games. You gotta you gotta let loose qualified for the playoffs saying and not having people baseball do as you know eight out of thirty. Then. Social I think that the so there and LBS as -- a couple people ass kicker again and NL DS champ shirt. Nothing that doesn't exist as it turns out I thought to myself sure but -- you win the division into division do you he won the division UN. This this round going into with Philadelphia the LCS you are the pennant winner and you represented the National League. ML BS's interim step that is is tricky precarious. Spot in the -- in the playoff rotation and not so it was a great feeling I it wasn't really subdued in the clubhouse -- have to say that they were let loose and and and -- going to have a day off. Today part is that when you beat San Diego to win the division is at home obviously so the players to celebrate there but it. You know you're gonna fly either way you're coming back -- game five or -- coming back charters waiting. So what was it like to -- your flight from Atlanta Georgia you gotta put thousands of miles you guys just want something what is that feeling like to be on the charter with the team. How did they react flight home. It's it's a great feeling really paranoid everybody it was it was -- cool thing somewhat although they're very tired so what what what happens is that in the beginning. There's a lot of food and hollering and card games and and dad yes some of the coaches -- go back to the back of the plane and and and well some playful. I playfulness and had a halfway into the flight. You're at and a 5 AM body time to save yourself -- -- gather -- and kind of lose it and run out of gas but it's a it's it it's it it really accentuates the family aspects of that when you when you see that the guys. Whether it's a card game or conversation and hang out watching a movie. This this is a family family but is different than most teams I've seen. But you know in the eighteen years -- Giants some different. And -- be back at a charter on Thursday go back east to play Philadelphia witnessed at the scheduled today games one and two was we knew would be in the -- -- -- midnight on the East Coast -- game three at home is going to be a daytime game which would make Bruce Jenkins. Very very happy as an organization. Are you happy it's gonna start at 119 would you rather play at night which -- taken that. Think -- Think that I. This Fox's -- fox is a big part of then you have the fact that the so that I think showed Tuesday and I am well aware so get -- so they. So we knew we were gonna get one day game and it was up to the really the negotiation to MLB and the and the league to determine which game. I'm as we make for a fast turnaround in were deciding right now whether we fly back. Right after the game Sunday which would be another scenario and I after an 8 o'clock eastern start. On Sunday 8:20 eastern start outside they would fly back right away or we fly back first thing Monday. Figuring that out but you know today they start but both teams are doing that. Both teams are coming out and for a -- fairly faster that's our next day turnaround. This series is gonna be. To be a lot intensity we think of the series and there's gonna be a tremendous match ups. The Giants -- Phillies have played some epic games this year. We had the the and I -- here that we did where the Phillies won we called the Jayson -- game could chalk line and hit the chalk line I bloop. And so we that's a great we expect. You know at how can you expect any more close games but they'll become and I think history -- these 41 run games against the Braves. Were absolutely whatever stomach lining. We have left after a 162 games we've lost in the in this these Braves games mr. Wayne says Giants baseball torture but it's been good torture so -- congratulations JF thanks Greg and I guess to celebrations down and into morning go to get the most.
