That you back out to Oakland right now and welcome in our NBA insider -- I'm Nancy you're hurt. Asked where Iraq earlier question about why this decision was not made -- earlier Matt. Let's begin with that Larry Riley kind of skirted that answer a little bit I mean was it really kind of code for -- ownership needed to decide whether or not they -- yeah wanted to eat that six million dollars and Don Nelson was up. I think that's as simple part of it Dave I also think that there were logistical issues. Involving incoming ownership and outgoing ownership what it -- you gotta bring a whole another party to the table to make a decision like this. And when yours when you're talking about maybe sign an assistant coach -- bring in Louis salmon season. That's one thing when you're talk about firing coaches make in six million dollars and bring in and his assistant I think that's another. And I think that's why. We got an all kinds of things like -- -- in Crisco handle Larry Riley in that make it all. A lot of different things work out. -- this was his decision matter you behind and that because you know Larry Riley Don Nelson given their history. Do you think Larry Riley really was the catalyst behind us. I actually really do. And I think guys it was a very gut wrenching decision for because Don Nelson somebody you. Who kind of brought him into this business but I think that that anybody who looked at this situation. And wasn't wearing Rose colored glasses. You know how to acknowledge that that this season was going to be tough to move forward all with Don Nelson as a coach. And I give Larry Riley credit for for figure that out and and and going about. Going about it in -- way to have to make this decision. Even if it is this late which I don't think is very great but. Better late than never as they say and I do think it was a tough decision for Larry Riley. But I've heard from a multitude of people that. He knew this was -- and he's noted for months matter you surprised at all that Don Nelson was not there today. But not now not at all I'm really not. My understanding is he wasn't crazy about haven't aboard a plane from now lead Oakland. So it's not surprising that he was on a plane back to -- Saturday morning. From what I understand. I you know -- -- he'll give his first couple interviews over Bergen and a cigar on a cellphone. To some national guys -- find out -- that's what's gonna happen. First -- let's talk about Keith smart as he becomes the 24. Man to be that coach of the Warriors actually the 26 Arabic Al -- and Don Nelson. Book that it twice I think he's smart can he succeed with this team he was an interim head coach for the cats. Back in 2002 in just 931. Do you think he can have better success this time around. That's a great question -- and quite honestly my answer my initial thought would be no he can't and I'll tell you why. Because I think regardless of who coaches this team right now. We're looking at team that that's. Maybe a 35 win team may be a little more than that if they over achieve maybe maybe a little less than that if they don't. And so we're looking at a season we're let's say the Warriors win in the mid thirties now he sports contracts up even if he did a nice job. Others are going to be a groundswell of support for him to continue. That's why I think he smarts and a very difficult situation. Because I think the expectations of the team are just -- touch unrealistic I think this is not. Right now it's at thirty somewhere in team. Until I see differently and I think people are gonna want more. Then that from the Warriors and -- more it's gonna have to be the one answered that. As far as Larry Riley is concerned how much is his future gonna be tied to Keith -- success or failures this season. Well I think actually Larry Riley's future depends more on how we interact with Joe Laker. You know assuming Joe -- gets control of this team in the next year. Of next year the next few months I'm sorry. Larry Riley's contracts obviously up at the end of the year so I think that's really where that's gonna come down to is how comfortable. Wake of fields working with Larry Riley. I don't think Larry Riley is gonna be quote on quote on the hook for the heat's mark. Hiring because at this late date the fact of the matter is. Joe lake of obviously made it clear that he didn't wanna go out and try to get a big name coach right now. So really the decision was -- That's the way they're going -- and like I -- I don't think it's necessarily. A make or break move for Larry Riley I think it's Joe Laker realize in and that he didn't wanna make a big coaching change right now. I'm Matt last thing and now -- ago I know it's media day today so I don't know if you've had a chance to talk to the players yet. Regarding this move but what if you -- if you have what is the reaction and if you haven't what do you expect their reaction to be. Two keys from -- being named the head coach. Well having yet they're they're coming out about twenty minutes. I don't anticipate he'll be anybody. Extremely disappointed and I don't mean that. To infer that. The players didn't like Don Nelson. Some players obviously like Don Nelson more than other players but. He's smart has been a guy's been around here. For quite awhile now the players are very comfortable with him. So while I'm not saying that the move to get Keith smart is gonna make a dramatic differences in the win loss column. I do think for the time being at all it'll set the ship on a smooth. Yeah path from there for at least a few months and I know for a fact that you know he smartest somebody who. For what it's worth is more well liked by the players and Don Nelson but that doesn't mean anything in terms of wins or losses.
