12.24: Mychael Urban on Justin Duchscherer
Transcript
2000 it was a very good year for Justin Duchscherer the exception of the season ending injury 2009 a terrible leader for Johnson and every respect. He struggled to get healthy once -- finally ready to get back on the field. He suffered clinical depression and got diagnosed I thought he was courageous and admitting to the depression. He shut his baseball season down which in effect shut his a's career down and tell. This deal surfaced one year deal heavily incentive -- He's gonna make if he hits the incentives close to the money the five million dollars that he made. For doing essentially nothing for the a's last year and that's a big part of why justice coming back there are offers out there that we're gonna pay -- potentially more money. Then what his deal with the a's will pay him. But Justin feels a sense of loyalty to the team you don't feel loyalty from professional athletes very often now what this means to the -- on the field. Obviously significant -- immediately becomes the ace of the staff. He's a two time all star once as a starter they have a great young rotation he's gonna anchor that he's gonna solidify it -- -- guys and -- spot that make more sense. But off the field I think this is just -- cool part of the story. The fact that he show loyalty of the fact that he showed the courage and exposing the depression and being open to talking about it. This is a good story for his fans and in every single way.
