Here are looking live bat game meeting room at AT&T park as real way. The 2009. National League Cy Young award winner Tim Lincecum has taken. The national league's top -- for a pitcher for the second straight year. And we are getting set for a press conference live a special Cy Young addition hello everyone welcome inside the Comcast sports net studios I'm Matt Morris and along with Michael. Urban of mlb.com. We broke the news for you earlier today Tim Lincecum is the repeat winner of the National League Cy Young award. A spectacular day for -- a great day for Giants as well yeah and it's a great day for receiver electricians and that's that's a metric that. Giants fans. And fans in general have it only recently maybe in the past 1012. Years -- really started to embrace in the fact that Zack Greinke. Won the American League Cy Young was sixteen wins was kind of an encouraging sign. For fans that maybe were doubting whether Tim Lincecum could win it with fifteen victories but the fact that you look at the other numbers now as hard as you look at wins and losses. It's good news you know Tim was the most dominant pitcher in the league I didn't have a vote but I would have voted for him. Based on his dominance in the other numbers bear that out the other two guys had great years map but Tim Lincecum was fantastic man it's it's a great day for the Bay Area and protect it. Was one of the closest votes in National League Cy Young history certainly since the ballot went two or three players did in 1970. Tim Lincecum with a 100 points out morning Chris Carpenter of the Cardinals I just six. Adam Wainwright. Finished third in the balloting despite getting the most first place votes Wainwright had twelve. Lincecum eleven but he finished with 122 place -- 39. -- Chris Carpenter had 91 place votes but finished ahead of his teammate Adam Wainwright -- one of the closest voting. And naturally Cy Young toward history and Tim Lincecum wins it for the second straight year the 25 year old right hander we'll be speaking live. Let's hear from AT&T park momentarily as we set the stage for that it's Michael Irvin of mlb.com. Along with. He has all the numbers that we talked about -- you and I -- when we first started talking today I said you look at the wins and a look at the ERA and from those two numbers. And I Chris Carpenter looked like he should win the award but now we score a lot deeper in the statistics and clearly when all the writers broke it down Tim Lincecum came on -- And to believe those numbers that you mentioned are the numbers that that voters have traditionally looked you know for a guy -- when he wins and somebody has a significantly better ERA. But 1516 wins the guy -- when he went is going to get it that's the way it has been done in the past. Now the tide is turning a lot of that you look at Tim Lincecum batting average against two -- six. Hitters got hits through at a ten times up for this guy the guy had a grey area the second best in the nationally behind Chris Carpenter. His ERA again is here is very good his strikeouts to walks ratio is even better. Then a Cy Young award here you know you to beat the champion and that's what Tim Lincecum was he was the site is -- reigning Cy Young champion. To beat him you have to knock him out you have to beat him decisively because -- number's got better in 2009. That's what I think that the voters looked at they look deeper than just wins and -- It looked Avian celery numbers and said you know all around this guy I was -- -- more dominant pitcher or not only did the voters agree. You know obviously agreed that but I think if you talk to the hitters -- they don't have the exact same opinion. -- Timmy did lead the league in strikeouts and again earning himself the second straight. Cy Young award winning -- to AT&T park right now for a -- live Tim Lincecum press conference on the 2009 times. And aunts and also Comcast. Sports center audience as well -- -- -- our listeners. Welcome today is a great day tomorrow stay for the organization. We are introducing the 2009 especially Cy Young award winner Tim Lincecum Christmas soon. Up here on the podium for the Giants general manager Brian Syrian. Giants pitching coach to ever getting. Course -- the Giants manager field manager Bruce boutique. With that I'd like to start by reading a statement from Giants general partner mister Boehner come. On behalf the jets' organization in our wonderful fans we congratulate. Tim Lincecum on the recognize the national league's premier pitcher in 2009. But -- in the National League Cy Young award for the second consecutive year to become the first ever pitcher. In the history but baseball to win back to back senator awards in his first two full seasons in the majors. He also becomes the young especially pitchers do so and joins a pitching greats Sandy Koufax. Greg Maddux and Randy Johnson has known nationally pitchers ever to achieve. This tremendous milestone it's a great day for Tim and a Stanley for the Giants for fans everywhere. Timothy exceptionally talented baseball player -- and his high honor through hard work dedication. The competitive spirit. Also want to congratulate our entire baseball organization. -- Tim's teammates are scouting and player development professionals. Our coaches. Entering central role. Played in helping him to reach this high level of achievement. We're very -- -- accomplishments. We look forward to his continued countries since the Giants for many seasons -- Those from Dominican as many general partner. With that set up like to now introduce Brian -- to have him tickle comments but some achievement. Thanks student obviously a momentous day. Pretty amazing. But that's what defines -- ability and this organization so proud a lot of people. Including Dave to write -- Meehan and vote should deserve a lot of credit. Under tough circumstances to put this guy in this position. Quite frankly I annoyed -- compared to last year. How this voting might go because of the other two candidates. So it it really is a proud day for him in the organization and their fans and a lot of hard work went into this. I don't say this tongue in cheek but you know would we go from there it's it's pretty awesome. And I think it speaks volumes to his dedication of the game is flow of the game. And really his competitiveness. Is stable of short tell you this disguise all of vote. When -- baseball game once he gets so there and I think as we saw from his statistics which were improved from last year. Including on a team that was very challenge. To score runs -- one of baseball game. It really is amazing and so we're certainly very fortunate to be here -- there. -- -- -- I -- yep that's obviously a tremendous. Day for the organization for ten -- them. It's pretty exciting and brilliant and ways it's overwhelming if you think about sports that you've been in your whole life is. See young man like this achieve these things. Are so early in his career and to the point where. Brian mentioned. You know where you go from here we I think we win I mean. Tim he's set the bar for our organization of the pitch well and compete well and I think it. To me it it lends to the jags winning so. I think that's where he's always thought about it anyway I think these are. Icing on the cake. They're pretty wonderful. But I think he just really just wants to be on a winning team and being part of a team does when his friends and his his buddies. And he plays that way and it's it's a great honor to deal would coach them and his other team. -- -- -- -- Yeah I'd like hamburger excited can be very happy forma. Definitely. So has more in baseball. Think about it it is remarkable. His agent and how young it is as his career how he has establish and so opens. As for the elite pitchers in the game so -- me work. There slightly crowd like what you've done. These -- and Tim. Yeah I mean. And don't you know to say about this thing going and knowing come up here enough. You know give give thanks to you know only teammates in the organization as a whole. You know -- been a big thanks to you know -- here for -- on me then and -- three years. And you know obviously the biggest you you know and and and I can't I can't not to mention there has. You know he's half the reason I'm here. -- -- -- -- on the same page out there and who's coming with a with an attack plan. He definitely help me agreement the table this year and a and last year so. You know -- starters -- deficit thanks for the fans. Not you know coming out day in and -- -- I -- gets called for me me too so. -- Yeah I mean and is understood in this position. You know thanks everybody. -- -- -- now into the questions. Tim Redding lets keep TV here congratulations first of all it and it talked about. Obviously winning it last year. How did you make sure that you were going to be a different pitcher what did you do in do you think it translated this year and -- making yourself a different pitcher what was it again. You know I think it is that is comes back to being a student of the game and you know never settling. -- know our guys can. You know this you know things they did I completely solid last year and is. And is trying to you know bounce but I didn't I just want to become better and -- I gotta be around guys like Randy Randy Johnson you know guys you know that to my kids so. Not hear guys say it I don't know to never become content is trying to become better tennis. -- in your mind -- that's that's that's the real reason we're here you know when games and better and make yourself better so. -- took it upon myself and you know just just Washburn. -- how to pitch better -- us. And I came -- two pitch guy fastball curveball guy my strategy changeup and this year and I think and emphasized it was even more Simon knows my game to -- him. No you know -- -- -- -- -- to use my other pitches in the future. Tim what did you think would would win this award and also what does it mean to win too -- and where do you go from here. -- ISO earlier earlier -- from the -- here. You know Carpenter looked -- but he has been what he had done and go nobody came back off of them -- just had a stellar year where. Amazing numbers and that's allowed to have me just keep pushing and you know come back out you know but guns fires. Minuses. I'm glad to be in the position that I am back with -- two wins and England to sign Owens and in. I -- embarrassing. You know growing up but. You know you try to put in the hard work because it. Good things necessary. To put yourself in this position. And I just came a little bit lucky and on top. Tim Dave mentioned the next at this to win. How imperative that -- -- -- -- -- for you wouldn't do you think this team is right there and you put two of the greatest seasons ever -- -- and yet have not pitched in a playoff game. Yeah and and others there's things out there that are not gonna lead changes he's doing anything about our clothes -- close one run games whether they are. No news pitching an inning or whatnot. He's -- and listen you know -- if you were sitting in different spots so doesn't take a lot of changes in our mistakes. You know. Hit an event of opportunities that you're doing and just you know going after -- I think this is kind of where we came out this year and we had a lot of and we don't have any expectations of the team you know we came out I over the last little finer bus and -- was -- improve them you know we didn't came. And hopefully. This will be a springboard for next year. Did you talk about Randy Johnson's influence what specifically did he do to help you and how -- other members of the staff pushy this year. You know I was -- it was a -- I think physical. Life it is -- -- talking you know general. So long you know just one -- -- day. So being when he when he was -- against changes. They thought he would you know mentality from when we're we're about and fish and all this -- and you break down. Know what will people learn and what I've learned in my life from my. -- like -- -- both of those are kind of the same kind of things that he you know had they saw on TV he was trying to you know never have become content never. This never settle -- you know this you know. The objective is that World Series thing and I think it's it's never just enough for me just trying to incite violence for the team and this is just. To society I guess -- -- -- I a side benefit to I kind of trying to get to where he lost ago. This is a little conference they forgetting all I did. Tim Tim's name is being mentioned along with. -- facts Randy Johnson this is the leader of the elite what qualities and abilities does he have as a pitcher that brings him to that level. Right that the levels that these guys go to. Now they get on the on the mound and other than an all star you're talking about guys that are threatening to be Hall of Fame type players people that turn on the TV set the watch these guys. Perform men and women. Tim he's got that he understands it he understands how to deal that. But I think if you look back at all those guys almost every one of them weren't a competitive situation where the they they were needed by their team they either become the best. It's very hard to do on your own -- think why just that's my goal every year and I think your goal -- they'll always stay with winning and with cold facts I'm sure was with the Dodgers and Gibson with the Cardinals. And I'm sure rare shot here picks like a Cy Young award winner for many years and they had great ball clubs. And I think it all makes sense to me that you need to be in that atmosphere. In team sports so to me that's where he. I think he's one of those guys and I really do Pedro Martinez. Maddux. I think it's all about the wins. And the good things these nice conferences and the awards they come later. But. I think he's building for something that's be pitching for winning winning club. Tim can -- arts and sports your stature speaks volumes for kids. There are 63 and 200 pounds and this -- out throughout their own opinion they got stop watches and at this guy is so big he's going to be great pitcher. For what you have done this gives them great -- Yeah I mean I think with the way I looked up to use -- smaller stature pitcher's mound occasionally Royals while. -- and last of these names you know time and again but. You know anybody that you know that kid can latch onto it is motivation or. -- inspiration you know it shines like I mean it's -- it's it's it's great and and and his. I know this coming up I was like I don't have these six then I'm not going to be over six foot so I mean. I think something different than him I got to become better I had a -- that. -- for the questions. Didn't. -- I know you're gonna address this specifically at the end but just generally you talk about the growing up process has this been. -- smooth process for you are you there are ready idea always to go just normal growing up process as -- now two time Cy Young winner. Yeah I mean you know I think a lot of growing up to us to do his experiences you go through them. You know whether that be gathered. Who needed we talked about guys like Matt Cain and human growth where everybody else cities like thirty years old he's this thing makes me. So. And others in -- there's different people really go through different experiences that shape them and you know it's unfortunate also that you have to go through he knows the bombs like I am going through. To get to where you think you need to be and and I just about you know changing yourself and you know looking for the right road to take -- You know making hard on myself for -- yourself so. Following up on that. -- -- -- -- -- Month and yeah I mean. I would let -- I mean you look at those kind of incidents that happened and you know it is a lot of things coming perspective and you realize. Kind of influence you have on the other people in the world so. My homeland something to that question before. I didn't quite get through it. The reason why this guy it's partly great. You can talk to improve the minute he sees something happening before his eyes and swing. The way -- moves. Geez that felt good drive through whatever. You know he goes and does -- he's not afraid to try to -- the and that you know you can see. For -- difference in his demeanor how he carries himself hard performs in his delivery. That he's never been afraid that tries to open in terms of make himself better. And he'll make a mistake but he learns from it right away there's many guys that you coached I've coached over the years that. You have to keep talent pounding some into you don't have to pound along with him that he sees that there's going to be something good to come out of it and I think that's what makes him special in terms of an athlete -- his willingness to. You know and from maybe innovate maybe try some watch another pitcher I -- try someone that now we just gotta get -- -- -- that -- be for. -- There are obviously stats aren't everything in his -- EC either in the way this was voting was going how much of it do you think it. The vote went your way because of who you are the kind of player that you are being the electricity that you project the usefulness in the you know being a little. Off from. Downed conservative. -- now I don't know I'm -- I don't know how much that changes. You know. The other voters being voters -- at all. Really good chance of thrown out of all those writers and the chances you know so their opinion of you within the years so. I don't know I mean it depends on how well they get to know you mean how well. You know you you've you've detention but I won't say I'm in you know I mean obviously with the stats or think you know this the voting becomes a little bit less than before skewed. To the point where. Many don't know let you know these voters basing their their their vote off of so many so many different things you can you can you can turned. And then. I -- talked a lot about growing and and and where we go from here. What you see -- -- to work on. And to make sure that your your back here next year this time making incest in his speech how do you. -- ninety Cy Young awards and his first of seasons. I don't I don't think it's it's about you know vying for the next -- -- it's just of and I've always been that I've always been just Laura -- at a time guy and and I just not getting things too ahead of myself. This and in is that things just seem soft arteries that are that are completely. You know really got out of my control I mean you can see in. I'm -- when -- and an instant there was nineteen -- -- me you all want come and I don't think it's going to be a lot of Cy Young. You know life -- and isn't you know anything a lot of hard work and a lot of you know time in this game on any and probably any less than I did. So it's no -- comes back to. Lindy kind of fortunate I think luck as part of doing it but the rest is. Another time in the work that you put into it. I have invited them. The last little while but didn't it'll play out Helm. Did you watch a blast you want to play us every year this year's class specifically and how much do you crave. Pitching in a game like them. You know I think ever since I got in the all star game and actually pitch into the pitching that. And you see that kind of atmosphere that we kind of talks about -- You know the crowd and you the intensity of it ended. You know kind of opens your eyes to what you -- you what kind of situations you wanna -- and what it would be like and so yes I mean. Think we -- talk about winning being beat the main the main the main goal here and then get in the playoffs and and I think. Know once you get there it's all about. You know then you know it's not about who role in the in the post season with no better you know. Winning streak or losing streak is just about getting there and then turning on the appropriate. Number Anderson's is needed some. It's similar worry when he got the news and -- -- was the general generally your initial reaction. I was at home still trying to wake my. -- pretty excited actually you know is. -- -- have really service where does that slower out my window out onto the -- my house. Just to get better. Receptionist to that are but I don't who has jumped out of my window and I got a that was exactly is I had stepped -- and receives a call but I was I would jump up over -- so hesitant. Not enough of us -- in my arms. Anymore questions. Crable Tim I think would like to make statements. Regarding the -- Washington. Yeah. And made a mistake. You know make complete your -- The incidents that happened earlier this month up in Washington. I want to apologize to the Giants organization and especially the fans. You know that as an athlete. Neither a lot of responsibility is that I need to -- hold -- two on and off the field. And -- that I. You know I hope I just wanna say that I just won't ever happen again and I problems become that in future. Think attempt that your great thanks for every coming it's that is -- saying that -- -- to you think you can putt but yeah. Yeah. --
