This is the web exclusively for CSN California dot com Henry Wofford along with the Raiders insider Paul Gutierrez Paul. And -- finally break camp noted here overall lots of -- they won the overall impression is I don't have to Wear this thing around anymore the credential I get to where the game. They -- so that's always going to be fun but. But coming into camp the first thing that struck me was just how calm how cool how class in this Raiders -- and this is. This is the kind of place where a couple years or Jerry Porter shows up very unhappy wearing them Ted dvi c.'s million dollar belt because He wants to get paid. Couple years after that that you got a staff -- showing up with a mysterious fractured -- us. He hit into an -- man so there's been none of that kind of stuff here and Hugh Jackson himself that he's not about the drama He doesn't need the drama. -- He didn't save a save the drama for your mama and it was it was nice nest it was just about football tonight these guys get back on the bus and in and they had back down on the effort to get ready for the regular season. But there was some drama mean the Raiders all in camp and typical you know. Showtime fashion I hold in their store or future potential star rookie. Terrelle -- out here and when He talked to the media there at the bit about forty of -- around him but that was the interesting thing is he's you know He was asked the question I think you may have action and when asked him Henry was. How does He start -- how does He keep things calm around him he's well this isn't a good start but but he's got to realize that. He's come in and he's he's he's basically wearing that scarlet letter around him and you know there's a lot of jokes He made about that He came off the field today and He wasn't I noticed He was not carrying his own helmet now that's something that veterans do they make the rookies carry their helmets off the field. And for a guy here his first -- and not have that I don't know why but. But the first thing you think is. DR to sell that thing and and for some memorabilia but that's bad jokes prejudice but -- -- that helmet but no way it's it's it's a situation where. This guy he's an athlete off the charts is a measure is measurable is a ridiculous so if they can get this guy. To be a quarterback an NFL quarterback. We saw him a lot of passes that kind of war was over and then a couple of of wounded ducks lineup there. He's got to get that spiral tighter he's got to get a grasp of the system and I in my opinion that five game suspension is gonna do -- from because he's got to keep his nose clean by keeping his nose in the playbook. It was very interest and I asked them do you think He got a fair shake and he's just playing got a fair shake give him really wanna comment on that. But -- got that one from that at least mine was that maybe He thinks He should be out on the field a lot sooner than five weeks. You have but He also backed it up -- saying that it's a blessing that that he's here anyway because that NFL very well could just that you know a kid no you you broke enough rules. You skirted issues in trying to get yourself drafted. So I think He sees that aspect of it -- but but the competitor in him is never gonna let him say okay I'm gonna take this phenomenon and -- and I use it. And take my punishment so. There's a part of him that I think he's he's kind of balance themselves and it's me again the best thing He can do is to sit up those five games. Learn keep his nose clean keep it in the playbook and we'll see what happens after that. Tell me if I'm wrong but I also got a sense that He has no desire to play anything other than quarterback He was asked that question several times He said the last time you play quarterback. What's freshman year or excuse me running back was freshman year and didn't even mention about playing receiver and also looked up with the six foot six not guy. 230 -- -- -- 33 you think you'll be upset if you -- the play anything other than. Quarterbacks well I think He would but that's the plan right now Keith Jackson said at the David to come in the supplemental draft this -- as a quarterback. We're bringing him in as a quarterback we're gonna go from there so that's again as one of the huge reasons I think he's got a fighting suspension. He's not gonna cost the Raiders a dime at that point as far as the salary cap goes. He's not gonna count against the 53 man roster again it's one of the reasons why I kind of flip flopped a little bit in my position first -- -- the Raiders need to stay away from him there's too much baggage too much bad. Mo -- going on there what you see in any as a kid and I made some bad decisions now this is a fresh start for him. So if you game again I keep lawmakers keep your nose clean by keeping in the playbook. If He can do that and show that he's serious and can work on getting -- spirals of of the tighter than than we're gonna see that there's something special there in terms of just pure athlete this is a man. And now hopefully he's got a better head on his shoulders and Vince Young the last night at this kind of athletic ability another newcomer for the Raiders Lito Sheppard how does He fit in here. He's a lot well He fits in -- in 21 which is strange to look up and say hey there's non B no it's not number it's a little us a little -- He fits in because that's secondary is dinged up. As she -- let's put it they're nicked up a little bit. And he's a veteran presence for a lot of those younger guys you know we almost apparatus -- cornerback. Chris Johnson should be the number two on the other side. But he's he's being out he's nicked at the end oil changes we've put it so He comes any has He offers a lot of veteran leadership does get as a former all pro. When we get out here being that you saw so many practices out here. I need your most. Your best offensive and defensive player during training camp and the runner up on defense and off. Well the one that stood out the most to me offense is the rookie wide receiver fifth round draft pick from Tennessee and areas more than I was ridiculous amount of plays He can make you jump and other buildings. -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- And in stride and and gone. So He was the guy that was the revolution revolution revelation. On offense defensively Matt Shaughnessy I think he's just taken a step just slowly but surely he's -- he's that close to becoming. -- an elite defensive end in this league got a runner up when He side guys who finished close almost got it again I and I yes it is at the Connie because Darrius Heyward-Bey. Look like you shine a little bit really blood mostly because you wonder and I wrote this during camp to his. Where is that that. That bar set from the bar for DHB is set so low that anything He does I mean you had to get cute coach hue Jackson talk much He caught the ball He -- up it is supposed to get to -- -- He looked like a pro donate them on this not a rip bunt on DH do you by any means but they look great. Defensively they're a couple guys that stood out in terms of they had to cancel it -- Jerome Boyd you know I'm not sure he's gonna make it to -- man roster but in a nice camp. Safety seeing some time linebacker. The one position that has me scratching my head is the wide receiver because we got Murphy that's injured Schilling says injured. Who's gonna be one of those sleepers that slipped into that top five or six. One receiving -- that we didn't express he's gonna be that guy that changes uniform number to make room for Terrelle Pryor number six number eighty Derek -- like when He comes and he's a veteran to an end again by no means is any side PRD has more career catches than any receiver on the -- Roster so -- specialist can get healthy and and productive. That's that's a bonus but Derek Hagan is a pro.
