That may have coming back another edition of 49ers training camp we just heard from head case Jim Harbaugh and -- back up three YE a reversal from Tuesday worries that he's going to approach. This they're freezing. Again Texans. Traditional -- -- starters possibly into the third quarter. And now today saying now that's not the case He wants to get -- twos and threes in there and get that experience. Against Houston starters. I think what we've learned is. Jim Harbaugh can say one thing and that we will exactly knowing how it's gonna turn out until we watch it I know He wanted to play all four quarterbacks and first pre season game. He did it -- it played too. This week. Let's just taken at face value what He said on on Thursday which is. Alex mental start -- -- -- predict we'll get in the third series with the back jams and then at some point Alex Smith will probably return back to lives up. Lot of teams use this scheme to get there. Regulars they're they're starters prepared for the regular season it looks like the 49ers approach as of right now. Would be to see what the -- can do and maybe have some of those spots filter out to see. If the back gap in a guy who's performed well in other team's second stringers or third stringers can do the same thing against NFL starters. Which I'm assuming the Texans will be using their starters throughout the first half so it would be a good gauge a guess for Jim Harbaugh and his staff to take a look at some of the younger guys see how they -- that's what I got at -- as well -- -- obviously He wants to see who they -- put on the practice squad how those backups -- perform He can even rule out the one word I got from him. Possible everything's possible yeah and that the problem is if you have a guy that you think. Hey He played well against the Texans first stringers let's put him on the practice squad. The only problem with that is if He does so well the other teams and every -- 31 other teams including the Texans against a -- matched up pretty well against our starters. He's on their practice squad may -- we won in. -- this is the thing this year I think with the 49ers they have a pretty good crop of undrafted players and guys like Ian Williams. A guy like demarcus -- On the -- line so those guys. They're fighting for spots on this team there are also fighting spots for spots on other teams so. It you had you walk that fine line -- -- which we want to see him but we would don't want other teams to see why we like this guys so much and why we wanted to keep program. He does -- get some of his starters or projected starters I guess He did say in certain situations and even went. Alex Smith comes out and calling cap Ernie goes and He grew up pretty Alex Smith back in the game after -- to trying to Jimenez two minute situations are red zone drills on third down situation it's not like a sure they wanna see -- -- -- -- a lot of different situations. But it's not like Alex Smith. Coming in learning the playbook is just a finished product of course I mean they need to get him in certain situations. Alex Smith is not ready for the regular season yet. This game more help him become race so they can get in that. In two minute drill. You know taking Gideon and in certain situations where you seem different coverages that's gonna benefit the team one thing of interest back in this big game Saturday night. Alex Smith where is He most effective last year Andy -- out and the -- so what did the 49ers do when they got after the red zone they ran like almost every time. And they ran on third down third and five at third and goal from the five what they do they ran third and goal from the two. When they do they ran so maybe. Jim Harbaugh wants to see other guys in that situation so maybe He already knows that you know Alex is pretty good and as far as making decisions inside the red zone where He really excelled last year so let's see what other guys can do or or or maybe let's not. Show anything to anybody and I think that's what we've learned more about Jim Harbaugh than anything else is He doesn't want you to know anything He doesn't want you know anything He has -- -- knowing that He doesn't want any team that on their schedule to know anything including his brother you're until they're not talking about anything that can come back. The upon him on Thanksgiving night in Baltimore. Well I do know that the players love this approach that speaking it Kyle Williams -- -- Bruce Miller and all those players. Yeah well I'm not that you're taught in the seconds and yesterday they are as a redskin by the first stringers you too because for streams -- at third first stringers that want to play in this game. I think He also gives us insight one thing that we noticed this year the locker room completely configured differently than last season where precision groups are not put together their players. Next a defense of players and next offensive players and linemen -- -- inner mixed and that's something that our -- He wants to do his early Foster that team atmosphere it is I want guys to plug -- do this all their cellphones and their headphones. And not neither team. Yeah and what -- day. One of the neat walls is BC Donte Whitner who could be the defense of leader as far as getting the guys lined up. And being more vocal guy obviously Patrick Willis is the team's best defensive player. Thought it would here could be maybe take over that tequila spikes will be more the vocal guy you have him next Alex Smith. Theoretically He should be the offensive leader and then you have two spots camp you have. Michael Crabtree in him Braylon Edwards -- all these guys right there. And Braylon Edwards and an Alex Smith have done a very good job of building a relationship got here on on the practice field. I think Crabtree needs to get involved and -- He and Alex need to have a better rapport off the field because you never really had seen. In two years. Alex Smith and Crabtree doing those things and of course Crabtree. Coming along from his foot injury. He's still expected to be ready for the regular season so we'll see if they're able that. Built a report. Anything is possible anything's possible. I didn't visit is an -- even when we change our mind it's an NCAA that might be different -- Well as Matt Mayo go right Matt man up -- or -- by the 49ers training camp He can watch as always on CSN Bay Area dot com.
