On first of all welcome to chronicle live at Greg Papa in studio in San Francisco I am enjoying your work on MLB network talk about the conversion having a ball player first of all to being a baseball analysts now. Well Greg first of all it's great to be with you but I'll always make the joke that. I used to not talk to guys like me when I was playing so now I'm on the other side of the fence and I'm really enjoying it because I've missed play in the game and this helps keep me around. There -- gonna check you are coming up at 4 o'clock our time every every night with -- MLB today do you guys have great analysis which you provide a live look -- of all the games and are you guys have been talking. Incessantly about the Buster Posey. And jury and I do want to get your thoughts now on how buster of Cabrera bounces back from this injury because. Three torn ligaments in the left ankle He broke his -- feel you're a guy in the mid ninety's. Right after you signed that huge deal with the Atlanta Braves are out of your dirt bike in the off season if you break your fit be a lot and it. Your chin that tibia He did not come back the next year you missed all of 94 came back in 95 and were the National League comeback player of the year was that actually come -- player. Of the year so. What can we expect from Buster Posey coming up next season run. Well Greg you're right unfortunately I can't speak to this and if for me it was very grueling but. The thing is that and then if I keep thinking about this with Buster Posey is that. When he's able to come back he's gonna come back a better player he's gonna is -- his conditioning is gonna be much better. He's his strength is going to be much better in his legs are going to be much stronger which a catcher is gonna need. It's the it's the rehab part of it that is gonna make him or allow him to be a better player. Now we all know it's unfortunate that he's gone through this the plays at the plate have been a big topic in Major League Baseball now should they change roles that kind of thing but. You know Greg almost a killer you know guys like Mike Scioscia it was parlor game where they blocked the plate from -- runners coming home plate. And try to save that run so as a runner you have -- -- -- -- second to make up your mind if you're gonna try to slide or you gonna try to run into that guy at the plate. And more times than none you're gonna see guys slide but when -- when a catcher blocking the plate if He doesn't give you any room. I thought Buster Posey gave gave him a little room there to be able to -- around them but. It's it's such a quick thought that you don't even have time to even know what you're doing it at some point in time so. Off for me it's just one of those instinctive placed by both parties that just seemed to happen and unfortunately it came out on the wrong -- for Buster Posey. And obviously buster bouncing back from this injury really more difficulty there with the medical advancements fifteen years later because He is a catcher but. I am look at Richard numbers here you're great player but He came back of them mentioned your all star 95 you on the comeback player of the year award the National League run but. Your numbers were not as good in 93. You're one of the forces in the National League if finished fifth in the MVP that year He had 36 homers a 117 RBIs you missed all of 94 with a two broken bones in the leg at. And you came back in 95 with a new team in Cincinnati pitches to 76 just 23 homers and 88 RBIs just offensively now speaking at. Why did you not bounced back to be the same Ron Gant we. Saw before you broke your leg. Well -- in my case is going to be a little bit different of course didn't Buster Posey is case you know being a catcher he's not a speed guy. An outfielder I had to use my legs into you know run down balls and -- feel part of my game was stealing bases. And of course -- considered somewhat of a home run hitter so. All that is up predicated on your lower half your body which is your legs so. For me a lot of my game was my legs and you know I think more than anything it's that time that I missed in the game. Is a reason why those numbers weren't where they were supposed to be -- a really good season for the Cincinnati Reds in 1995 when -- filing came back. By the end of the year though is pretty much worn out because you know just trying to come back from that injury was pretty grueling. Curious to see -- you're ending your career Tuesday and so they open a 2000 wanna run up your career with the a's in the in the white cleats in 2003 and now you've made. The conversion inside the studio to analyze Major League Baseball and I'm looking at the at the standings in both leagues right now. And nobody in baseball not a single team is playing 600 baseball if you play. 600 baseball over the course of the year you're gonna get about 97 victory so nobody's on pasted dig anywhere near that. In the National League Saint Louis has the best overall record -- is getting hot now Philadelphia's right there airplane 590 ball just in the National League round up. Who was the best team right now do you think. Well if you look at some stats that you just mentioned I think there's some teams that are about to get out there are some guys that are injured that are coming back. For certain teams but I'm still looking at the Philadelphia Phillies are still like the Giants I think. You know even without Buster Posey in the lineup with that pitching in that rotation. And that in the back in that bullpen I still think the Giants are gonna be the team to beat in the nationally they're gonna have a lot of say so about the same. Come September but for me right now I still think there's a little bit. A little bit more of an edge with the Philadelphia Phillies because of their rotation they have some bullpen problems but I think their offense just hadn't started clicking yet. But Chase Utley is just now back in the lineup Jimmy rob Rollins has had his injuries. Shane Victorino -- been out so. All in all they've only played maybe one or two games with their full lineup all together in that lineup so. I'm I like the Cardinals but in the Brewers are coming along but I still like the Giants in the Phillies in the nationally. Mean you -- Philly also for a couple of years you're also were a card knowing you are you played for almost a six hitter in baseball have been alleged. Let him get out it's probably easier to tell you change that didn't play for there's never Montreal expo fans but we are gonna seem destined -- regarded as the Dusty Baker the reds come again. -- next week we just saw the Cardinals in Saint Louis last week and we already saw earlier Albert off to a terrible start but now he's back bombing homers seemingly a couple. But every single day of -- winning the National League central the reds who won it last year or Tony and Albert Pujols in the Cardinals this year around. While like the Cardinals but though the team that I'm keep in my own is in Milwaukee Brewers I think their rotation is very good. They got some good young arms in the bullpen some guys that when they come out there -- thrown a mid to upper ninety's. And of course now with Prince Fielder and Ron Ron and all these guys hit in that lineup they're starting to make a little bit of a charge also. So and that's central man I'm telling you gonna have to keep guys on the Brewers because I think they're gonna have a lot to say with this -- at the end also there was never -- a Milwaukee -- rather we should say. Rod again should probably keep silent inside that studio watch him every night on MLB tonight thanks so much for your time around thank you very much my pleasure.
