Astronaut Greg Papa in studio in San Francisco and I think of all the great shortstop to Major League Baseball today. Hanley Ramirez Jimmy Rollins Troy Tulowitzki Derek Jeter who is the best overall shortstop for the game today. It's hard to put your finger on exactly who because you know if you get a chance to see too risky to me every day you know people say that he's the best. You see Jimmy Rollins play every day so. It's a matter of personal opinion as to who is the best but. You know they're all very very good and I think that. Shortstop today or expected to. Present a lot more offense. Then you prototypical shortstop. Like myself and Nomar on this scale you know these guys -- can hit the ball on the ball park and played pretty good defense as well. -- was a time when that Miguel Tejada playing with the Oakland days was considered the very best shortstop in Major League Baseball Miguel began this season Isiah. Age 36 -- just celebrated his 37 birthday you play shortstop until you're forty bought and sold in the Rose. Had to pull that Jersey right off for you at the end -- talk about playing it. Late in your career shortstop it's like a wide receiver in football or a DB it's tough to play shortstop in players mid thirties. Well I think you -- And it's one of those things that you do -- the only year in year in your life and how you go about. -- keep yourself in game shape. Preparing yourself to play beyond the 35 or 4035 seems to be the number one people. All of a sudden that's how you start getting introduced. You're no longer. Ozzie Smith here 35 year old Ozzie Smith for. 36 year old Miguel Tejada. But I think that as we head as we've seen here through the years and not only end in baseball -- football as well that guys can play well beyond. The -- that people think they they should be playing you know Brett Favre is a perfect example of that high it's all about being given the job. -- -- a lot of guys when they have that 35 years of age Margaret shortstop they talk about moving him a different positions like the Yankees may eventually moved Derek Jeter to the outfield Miguel Tejada has moved from shortstop. Two with third -- you played shortstop your entire career to talk about that transition from many others. No I I think that you don't people look at that as a kind of a natural transition to move to another spot if you. If you're not -- playing well but tough for me you know basically it's it's about. It's about quality you know and I think that if you get older as a player you've been around for. 1516. Years and you understand that. Playing every day is not well as He does get those the most valuable player. I was I was about I was alluding to the fact that. You see that don't want this field -- he's not playing every day is still a quality player and done I think if it's managed well. Then a guy can play well beyond his son. His chronological age and dom. You know so it's it's about the opportunity to get the opportunity I think you guys prepare themselves they keep themselves in good enough shape. These days to be able to play well beyond now 3540 years old. Then -- made a nice transition playing very well over at third base but I earlier I talked about the other athletes to play. Wide receiver in the NFL defensive back center field in baseball and shortstop it seems like we were losing. A lot of the great athletes of your game at two other sports basketball and a football I know you are here to promote the RBI program. Reviving baseball in inner cities tell me about this -- Ford played forty campaign have. And that's basically what I'm talking about today is you know -- the RBIs program trying to revive baseball in inner city you know we've lost so many kids to this -- because. They see the Kobe Bryant facing LeBron James and AC VS the success that these guys have going straight from high school. Into the polls and not realizing that the percentage of guys that can't do that as it is my new. So Major League Baseball and Holiday Inn hotels have teamed up to to try and create that interest again. And simply by doing good deeds and good. Minor newspaper pain someone's -- in line behind you for me signing an autograph from visiting with the -- baseball fan for a couple minutes talking about the game as a way to pay it forward. And Major League Baseball at home Holiday Inn hotels are paying it forward simply by giving these kids the opportunity. Com by posting on FaceBook. The good needed to do. That will give you lie an opportunity to win -- all expense paid tickets to the all star game in Phoenix this summer. So. It's a great way to two to help a great cause and to try and bring about the interest of our baseball back into the inner city. Ozzie Smith fifteen time all star one of the greatest shortstop of all time we thank you so much for your time that I got chronicle have a good luck with pay it forward all right thank you.
