5.23: Sharks Late Night Confidential -- Game 4
Transcript
This is Sharks late night confidential after the Sharks game four loss fortitude of the Vancouver Canucks in the Western Conference final and Randy on. Join us get by Brett had a can filling in for drew tremendous -- got. He must have big things fit in here ready to to blow off a high -- profile program like this and you know I think he's making a really really egregious error in his career choices because allowing you another opportunity to appear on this program and interest not careful He could lose a slot here. You you might lose his spot again probably the CFL call his name I think again but again getting -- that is yep well so our guys -- just the -- You know we are just not sure he's on some sort of secret assignment sloppy as always here. Sloppy. Like the rest of us a little down after game four here this afternoon. An unbelievable turn of events and and you could almost feel it come. When the Sharks went old for three in the first period on the power play Brett. Then it ended up being over five they started the second period with a power play and what are they trying to adjust didn't work. And then you do the power plays we're gonna come the other way of course we didn't know there were -- 35 on threes in a row but the thing just snowballed out of control. I've never seen it obviously never been seen in the NHL -- couple this attitude by about 35 on -- they scored all three. But the Vancouver not so we had one of those all season long you're the only get three with a couple minutes. But the execution that they did on. Have we -- huge adjustment. Again they were a lot more aggressive when He could aisle the guys against the Sharks in that it couldn't get the aggressiveness they backed off -- -- -- to -- -- The Sharks are so good coming up to explode almost the best I've seen the National League all season long. Very good entry zone but they could it is only got four guys stuck across the Blue Line so now they can't have a together back to -- it and get back. And so they just you got to give -- -- that's a little bit of credit to make adjustments you know it felt like to meet in this this. Crazy to say. But as the Sharks got power play after power play. And failed to score on them. You almost hoped they wouldn't get an hour another power play because they clearly were out of rhythm their their their power play it was not firing on all cylinders. And it ended almost seemed like the -- roll their lines and get some five on five play and stayed awhile and trying to get their Mo Jo back because. Big Ten on the power play and it it just seemed to feed their their downfall in this game subjects it. -- Oregon who do these four games I've seen more power plays I've seen him in the conference final and I can't remember the last -- I -- so many penalties call and so the officiating. Call what you were -- there probably make it there are making good calls but. The problem is they're just taking away what I feel these two teams salad on their -- but you're right they got rid of your hand if you were to take this game. -- it is a question could I ask you as well as. -- there on the road. Fire power plays and don't score that the pressure is a little bit last thing to get back to their game tonight seems like in this building it added to the pressure maybe on their back. I agree air and I didn't hear anybody who -- The Sharks power play if I -- hear anything I think it was this large volume -- and our fans here chanting -- because that's what they called Longo. But you could tell that the fans were frustrated with the with the power play. You know that people who -- comes a lot of the games and and those of you watching the show. Who follow the Sharks closely. You know that if you get five straight power plays somewhere along the line it's gonna it's gonna even out somehow almost always does sure enough that it happened here tonight and I think you're right if they're on the road. You'll -- to the -- police say our guys through let's forget that let's look ahead but you're -- home and you. Kind of feel like you've let everybody down -- squander this opportunity. To build a lead like they did in game three and that I go back to gain three or at least so good on the power play early in game three. When they built up three nothing lead -- a lot of that on the back the power play -- Go for that to just firing blanks like He did today as a player what pocket change so drastically was that all the adjustments but the -- They cannot adjustments but the execution you talked about that -- poll shows that He didn't execute a little up passes to relieve the pressure on -- -- that there were so effective in game 12 -- three. He just didn't have that time for some reason didn't find the open man. Clearing the puck the other thing is they just didn't get the pucks to the program that nobody in front of Luongo He was seeing all the traffic as well -- all the shots. So you know you gotta say that in the Canucks make some some good adjustments but -- I thought. At that I've -- being in the second period calls a timeout to see much from that point that got their legs moving these days stopped thinking about not. Scored on the power play it sort of creating some offense by using their legs and using what kind of here at this point of the season so. We've got to bring that game at the start of the drop of the puck that got every bit desperate obviously down 31 radio mean you've seen this team come back. From January 15 more to hear a different team. They've got through twenty guys working as a unit there would have. You know it's not the time to pick on people and and that's not what I'm trying to do here but facts are facts and and the Sharks need to find a way to score goals and win. Game five Danny Heatley you know -- -- goals scored in this guy's been one of the great -- scores in the NHL of his career. Couple of fifty -- years. Here we are we're seventeen games into the playoffs for the Sharks a six game first round of seven games second round now or four games deep into round three. Danny Heatley has three goals in seventeen playoff games. He has not scored in this series. What is Danny Heatley have to do to get himself on the scoreboard in this series to try and help this effort of getting the Sharks back into it. Last year when I watched -- -- replay I was really impressed with his his account. -- Working hard in the courts away from the puck. You know He was doing the little things that takes the paid a price to score goals the goals were secondary for me last year and it all his work. Became rewarded because if you want to go to win -- gold medal for the cumulative. All -- at times I just haven't seen that aggressiveness. In the course that I saw last year and sometimes. That work all season long enough to the little things finishing your checks that went from there. Eventually lead to goals so what is needed him He needs to help -- to battle the quarters at finish checks and go to the front of the net -- -- it passes tonight He was. He was battling in front of the sharks' net and you know you get rewarded when you do those ugly ugly things that it takes to win. It's hard work what hard work. It's off I'm very seeded in this playoff here Tampa Bay as you may recall back in the first round. We're down 31 of the Pittsburgh Penguins that's pretty ominous. Situation. But they battled back they tied that series and ended up winning that series. Now the Sharks are in the same quandary down 321 they've got to go to Vancouver and we knew they would have to win a game there anyway because. Of the way it shook out with Vancouver having home ice advantage and win four games you're gonna have to win one of them in Vancouver. You've been in this spot. Now you're in there and put yourself on that airplane going up to Vancouver tomorrow -- record this year on Sunday afternoon. What are the Sharks have to focus on if -- you know in recent -- all come together as a twenty man unit. Whoever's on the ice whether Joseph Thornton plays or not they all have to come together but. What what's the common goal here going into a do or die situation. -- -- -- The common goal when I look back you know this situation I was in it's it's -- that early focus. It's quiet this for the game every guy knows what to do or die situation. And He just remember looking around the world had different guys -- That focuses. So that works out. It's not a -- so. I'll sit focus this I'm sure it's not a word. Yes it is -- that He said yes He sure it's not. And let -- -- It you know the Sharks have just come so far this season. You know certain players just watched should step specifically when it really matters. Western Conference championship. -- -- -- so -- Eagles should mention. So Taguchi and other guys get it up I would picture -- pick out certain guys because there's this time that there's a reason why there's teams here every guys contributed. What you have to find a way when the team it's it's it's going to be Vancouver. Perhaps they think they got shipped him nice record to Stanley Cup championship is to find those twenty guys to your child ticket. -- to -- the basket. I guess it was you know we've had the the pleasure being able worked together so these post game shows on Comcast and so these last two games doing the shows outside of the arena. Course Friday night which is crazy here I think I'm not sure but I think couple adult beverages might have been consumed in the game. Some of the fans who came out and joined us for the post game show -- that was wild out there at one point. The crowd someone during one of the commercials that suggested that drew role -- And you know He made some. Comment that He certainly would if He -- and that the chant as we came out of commercial was -- looked -- I mean it was just crazy. And even today you know the Sharks lose and it's disappointing it's a bummer for everybody. But the enthusiasm out there the passion there was a lot of Vancouver fans out there as well they were convincing -- think that Sharks fans are having fun with it. And especially in the light of what we saw you know in Los Angeles earlier this year between. Some alleged Giants fan -- to Dodgers fans and and the giant fan who was injured it's great to see the passion. Of the fans want to travel back over the ones from San Jose we'll go to Vancouver and as an ex player now do it on the broadcast that it's got to be fun for you see that dynamic. If you don't ever get -- feel that that emotion of what's going on outside the building or even in the stands when you're playing the game and for -- to see this outside -- -- is if it's really changing for the city of San Jose I think you talked about them socialists or it is that the fans are are growing here in the Bay Area. They're the senior hockey for what it is exciting game it's and that actually is hard hitting its goals of the citizens are. So I like the fact we're we're seeing here with Sharks it's it's great. Yep that's the that's the twentieth year of the San Jose Sharks in the -- some of those fans that were out there. -- teenagers. Teenage boys and girls 161718. As well as they've lived in San Jose there's been a hockey team that's all they know. And and the people that call is still one of the nontraditional or new markets to the game may be relative to the original six teams that's true but. I think things -- changing in the series you know winner -- for the Sharks has come along way. To push it to over the tipping point not just in San Jose but in the whole Bay Area people kind of latching onto the the success this team -- -- -- getting to a conference final for second straight year. She's hopefully they can do it here on on Tuesday night I think we've seen these guys have what it takes and I and they showed us in game three how to -- Vancouver minus Jamie -- major penalty in the third which made it a little too close for comfort you take that out and I think if the Sharks can replicate game three in game five. Vancouver they're in good shape they're in great shape then again the series isn't over six forwards -- -- cliches but. They're still there there's eleven and -- are still got to go there I can still have the winning game. Winning game with pressure pressure to execute it to go to the Stanley Cup -- -- -- in Vancouver. Old place so I think that's the big question -- can -- give the credit to the fans of Vancouver to. 1994. They've only done that's what they have the Leon. Going to the Stanley Cup finals losing and they waited for this moment -- see how many fans have been career laughter of course is game what will call their excuse this year. It's all relative that's the fortieth year for the guys in their history and they're still waiting for a Stanley Cup as well so we'll see what happen. Happens on Tuesday and hopefully you'll be able to rejoin us we'll see who will work on it you know if you lose it's just I don't know like royalty to my. Gonna -- your replace. What I as I've said from the opposite drew it has made some curious as a professional decisions here getting an opportunity to kind of slide into the SL ANC thing. And all the you know all the Sharks late night confidential fans or as we I think we call on the I think we should call -- -- late night -- That's the fans of the show the stalkers media tipping more than -- side we'll have to wait and see. Like smile even Brodie Brazil -- -- us tonight I don't know wherever it is I just felt that sweet I don't mean that in the wrong way. My phone -- that QB -- saying that maybe He said tied up which they might have a better you're going so we're gonna sign up for now will be back on Tuesday Sharks late night confidential after what hopefully will be a successful game five red -- thanks for development for -- yeah -- it for good. Slap me gimme five all right sloppy and remember He Burrell. Keep them fresh and keep it real fresh. On late night stalkers.
