Carson Palmer is going to be our product a conversation subject tonight I dropped by elevator earlier sat down the road the Raiders quarterback and I -- -- If He was watching the Raiders game on Sunday when Jason Campbell fractured his collarbone. Aftermath of it I was I was watching number games and trying to flip through and and to try to pay attention. As much what all the good stuff on Sunday at 10 AMP worth with six games going but I saw. So within 1520 minutes of it. Knew that was obviously a big deal and a huge -- this this team this organization. They did they don't like go often your brain knowing hue Jackson that he's lost a quarterback maybe a little wind up in silver and black here shortly it didn't. And I ever saw Leno and how important is lose -- starting quarterback. They really didn't -- from there wasn't thinking that I wasn't you know I didn't want this at all I just thought. I was in a situation I was in which was retired. He say retired but you're still working out some I know we TJ Houshmandzadeh and some other people around the Southern California area. Exactly what were you doing when teams went to camp in August turned to September in September to October were you working out like you were coming back pretty do you think you were done for this year. And for all of August I was actually doing double days. You know. Abilities are now kind of -- with -- CB. But I was training and working out and throwing them and hoping really hoping for a an opportunity. And it just didn't happen and then. You know once once things really settled down and and week once started a figure what's gonna happen so. Sort of kind of try to focus on them what was next for myself my family and and trying to figure out what the next upsets your take was and I did not think this that this is gonna happen. -- He got the text on Monday night and Tuesday you come up here -- your raider you meet the media in this very Rome and then right after you got to learn this playbook and Al Saunders got to pick one of one point I think it was 700 pages thick I don't think it's quite that thick but to how much learning do you have to do just in the playbook Carson. Well I mean I think the first thing the first thing is football's football. The terminology is always different from team whose team for some teams that some similarities and the terminology but. Football's football then the day doing the terminology down. Figuring out body language -- receivers speed receivers. Where. Tight ends and running backs like to catch the ball running crossing routes where may be that there's a number of intricacies that that are involved but at the end of the day. Football's football -- for a long time. There's a lot of really good players around me in this team. Rich rich mix which makes. The process go a little bit faster as you can be a little bit off. With some accuracy -- some timing -- may be because there's some guys here that. They're exceptionally gifted and talented and I'm just going to be relying on them and lean on them I saw you were. And after practice yesterday and again today with some of the wide receivers trying to get the yeah. The dance steps down the quarterbacks that do the best of pro football Peyton Manning and Tom Brady event of the same system is just about their whole careers so. It's tough to ask you to come together -- your teammates on Wednesday go -- play game on Sunday so how long do you think it will take for you to really feel like Carson Palmer again. It's a very your question. You know it's it's not something that there's a specific gators specific time circuit's next Wednesday at at 245 and have it. Football -- analysis were known for a long time and it's not the exact same system there that I've been in but. Although workhorse and and I enjoy the work I enjoy training enjoy studying enjoy watching film and and there's some really good young hungry guys in and especially the receiver position young hungry. Guys that. Just wanna get better and and they're looking for an -- in and hopefully I can I can bring that of these guys in and rub off on them and they can rub off on me in and we can give better in the process. How are you physically and arrange training downward TJ and some young guys in Southern California is one thing putting -- shoulder Perez and fleets and controlling a bit of practice temple's one thing that a game temple. Is a whole different thing physically where are you right now. There you know put on a helmet. Since January. So it's you know throwing and helmet shall present little bit different. And in full uniform it's a little bit different. Slows you down a little bits a little bit restricting. And you know that there's some certain things that. Are going to be issues to it but I know that coach Jackson knows that the guys around me know that. So there's going to be guys have to pick up -- forming in in certain areas like I said before but the guys around the around me in the situation I'm -- are good enough to do that. But you know that the training and physical part of it is is is -- something I had to handle also I got. You know get in shape as fast as possible life and I've I've tried to stay in shape but the only way you can get in football shape I think John Madden said it is -- playing football. And I -- and play football so. I need to take as many reps as I can and take in his opportunities that you get and practice. You had two injuries in your career one year to your left -- front knee as severe injury and one to -- throwing elbow backside your body as severe injury. Physically where are you overall because a one time I think she's she stroked the football better than anybody on the planet you're one of the greatest quarterbacks is ours just. Throwing at that the knee and the L ball where are you aware you were saying in 20052006. Good injury many have in 2006 and from what I've heard in the research I've done it's a two and a half years in your three year injury to really get back to where you are. And -- your money feels great my I. Wouldn't know that I had surgery -- just by feel -- by. You know strength and explosive and explosiveness. So money's not an issue mile ovals -- -- I think this move this year with the CB day help a player like me out tremendously because. I just was used to throwing -- after her mile largest through and through and through and through but with that with the CB in the lockout I took a lot of time off and my arms never felt better you know I didn't throw four or pick up a football from January until about may. So it was a great chance to just let it rest and rude letter recover without that stress and that torque. That you get from thrown -- football over and over again. Some Menino will feel great. That is getting in football shape. Everybody around here is asking the coach the same question over and over again who's gonna start your -- much and I'm not gonna be dumb enough to ask you that -- -- I can tell me the way that. If the coach did come deal. Instead Carson I looked at it and I want you start Sunday could you. If coach wanted me to him no water during the game. You know do you guys kickoff that that holds the ball up the tickets when -- -- the -- Sebastien He took the ball well I don't care. You know whatever Zastudil those sorts of them and -- whatever -- asked you if it's -- field goals. Infants who knows what it is if if if it's playing quarterback it's playing quarterback. -- normally do with sesame we're gonna prepare and and and I'm prepared to play. Then what happens happens. How does it feel put -- number three on number three here for the raider franchise first of all the mad bomber the great terrible Monica. One of the Al Davis -- favorites -- for you it means going back to USC a little bit -- -- -- I actually. Actually have kicked out and they just kind of so we're not right so I don't care -- into the matter it didn't think much about it in the game we tend. And 45 guys just kind of thing -- -- -- facelift -- you can't sorry you can't Wear. -- -- That I play with four Daryl Blackstock and some other guys that you go back to three so to get me through. Feels good to be back in your hand it to us it's an honor you know it's an honor to Wear that number is I know we got to work. The quarterback there were previously in and some hardware. How much is big picture -- let you go I mean you just pick up and you move your new area never been there before He got to. Live out of a hotel for awhile but your wife is from the south -- so that makes a little bit easier ninth. Yeah I mean this it's been this though a wild 24 hours 48 hours and I don't know. But you know it's it's an area I'm familiar with. You know my my -- their families is from northern California had been -- here. 67 times. So I know a lot about the area I spent playing time here been here for christmases. I don't buy we won't tire or we put on Thursday night and we we were appear. Site I've been I've been appearing in four times and it's agree or disagree place to live. A fantastic place to play in and just being generally been here for two days and went to the CVS. Last night and really patient is amazing for me it's. If you don't get a feel for it until you're part of it or your really you know close to it. The level of a closer for a short time it's six which you walked into the stadium on game -- were in black. You have walked in the stadium where way retired only one time and is a hard place to play. It is -- Passionate -- you to passionate fan base He got the black hole where -- at the raider nation sixty some thousand people. The new football and then and I've played in every stadium. Knew it was great fans everywhere but not every stadium that -- know it's it's. Rare to find -- seeing him walk and missing you can tell that these people football. They know when to be allowed. They know when to be really quiet. They understand the play clock you can hear him come on the -- from time -- time. So it's it's it's exciting them I couldn't be more happy they're excited to have you welcome the very Carson good luck and thank you.
