Transcript
A little boys and girls. Rat out here with a genius Pip Robert and at and we're gonna talk about. Red numbers ten through six on the all time area legend's group here at Comcast sports net Bay Area and out. We're starting to get down. To the real superstars now we've gone through the guys who might be on the list but might not be. These are solid people who. At best you could say well maybe should have been fifth rather than six but these are now flat out stone cold all for him now. Yeah yeah -- got -- and of course we know his. History with the Raiders out big John Madden fan and they won the championship so the Bay Area loves John mad that it would cut the you know we columns -- it's a great first baseman that speeded -- our. Tomorrow -- last time the Warriors -- exams -- great players on that team. -- very was it TV love fantasy. If anyone standout guy either get two great baseball players. These guys -- should have been in the top five but we'll get to that later and talk about Ricky Henderson and Barry Bonds -- great baseball players. For some reason I just think baseball players they get to -- in the state will start talking about football players. Well I think maybe here a little bit because. It's a football -- And always has been a football area I mean -- the best memories in in Oakland have been with the Raiders I mean he's been fabulous but. You know it's still greater talent first as a 49 -- 101. The Giants had the town last year announced 49 turned again to their role in. And so I think there isn't a basic biased. Toward football here I mean I think you'd have a hard time. In Pittsburgh. Getting anybody the Steelers at one through ten I mean I think it's just the nature of the population but I mean if you look at that list again I mean. We're really about the only one you could make it even a slight question about. Would be McCovey he might be a little high here. But. Mean I think I had I had Bill Russell in this group. And Bill Russell should be an -- -- Bill Russell Bob Barr could be the number one guy. You know if you look at it based on winning -- Bill Russell won many championships I think he is a reason. The Boston Celtics once so many championships he was all about winning and today and at USF people still talk about Bill Russell and ended there in sixty years. Oh yeah I I think he got downgraded because he didn't play -- pro ball here well. You know what he was one of the three or four greatest players in basketball history from me so. I would put in his eleven through fifteen there's Russell of the eleventh I mean this is a pretty nice group here I mean so really I mean there have been enough people here. So that there really maybe only one guy and his entire list if you look sixteen to twenty. There's one guy here that I might keep off the list. And that would be Tim Lincecum and -- team not sure that second. Only because. He hasn't done enough. -- what he's done has been spectacular. But it's still a very short career and there are people who did not. Make this list at all Tara vanderveer to me is inexcusable. She's got to be honest with some more -- -- Charlie Finley was too low at don't want marriage I was too low. I could give or take -- the bar low but really Ronnie -- at sixteen. Right I meet people if you just looked at that though how could writing like going to the sixteenth. Most important legend in this group yet and yet you start looking at who's ahead of them. And and it's hard to move people. At this point it is hard to move people and that I do agree with you with Tim Lincecum it has been a short body of work so far and we look at these guys on this list these are guys who had. You know -- Almost twenty years of pro ball some of them some of these guys have been in sports all of their lives and and there are on this list and we look at a guy like Tim has come yes he has had a tremendous career so far is 12 size and he's on he's always up there in strikeouts and the Giants won a World Series which they had been so long I think that weighs into the fact that he's on this list is that one of those guys. And help them in a World Series but we look at this list you say wow he is the only guy that still current. That's on this list yet. I mean I had to me I mean I didn't even think about him only because of that I mean tell the pitcher no question but. Based on for years yet known. If he wandered into the woods tomorrow would go to the whole thing probably not right. Let's -- bonds and Sanders. Because. From my mind. Well for everybody's mind Rickey Henderson is the best lead off hitter ever studied and it's possible. Bonds is for me the third greatest player in baseball history behind -- and things. And to think that they are only six and seven. On this list. Make you look at the list and go 125 going to be in good. Right because he's a tool like you sit the greatest players that play this game. And Ricky did a lead off hitter put up tremendous numbers as a hall of fame numbers and has the -- -- guy who's on base percentage -- four. For one sack and had 300 home runs and look at his his runs scored things like that and he compares with a guy like Barry Bonds it was a power hitter. The Bears on base percentage was way oval for as well yet and he hit way over seven -- home runs so. These two guys that think because people think baseball is not a physical game. They may get overlooked because of that but baseball's a physical game I played it I know is this tough game and blocked him grind out on 62. Oh yeah I it's again. The top five and when you include the fact that they're going to be people who did not play in the top five owners who mattered. Coaches who mattered. I can see why people say it with this but if you're just look at it and you were looking at it backwards the way we are twenty through six now. -- go well. How could not beat how could minds not be how could Anderson be there. And you really get down to an argument about one guys in the top five which will get to next week and one of those two which one of those two guys would you pick if you only -- one spot. It is very typical because bolt captivated the Bay Area -- did it with his speed and buried it with this power. Ricky won championships. -- he got the Giants to a World Series and played well in the World Series and AT&T was built for Barry Bonds so. You know when you think about it. -- was the greatest leadoff hitters so he may get into the top five because he was the greatest the office -- -- as you said Barry was the third best player in baseball so that may keep him out top five. Maybe you know I mean I know some people all historic sister you know what he did what he -- on the field I mean -- When his name comes up for all and I will vote for him without hesitation because I'm gonna vote for anybody steroids are now because it was the wild west. I would probably put bonds ahead of Anderson. Only because. He was. An absolute monster from 99. Through 2000. And he played here for fifteen years which Ricky did. Ricky bounced around to a bunch team was exceptional most of but. I think bonds may get an edge just for this list. Only because he was here. And and add to that race before this there. Bonds still monster oh yes he could still do 44 you can do 4040 but he could do seven camera now. And if nobody did and you know you can you can make the argument be if you're gonna say that -- shouldn't be six because steroids what you shouldn't have one list at all. For me. I think most players in baseball -- using some sort of PD. At that point. You know what if those are the rules by which baseball wanted to play whether they said they Gator guy those were the rules and -- -- out plays out. You know and me. Pablo from the outside. Never had to use so when you weren't here when I was inherently. I just look at it as though. When you give a baseball players something. That makes them better it's like so opened up a force in the porch is already fast but when you give it something else it makes it a monster. And to give a baseball players some that made him just a monster any -- -- but even before that he was still -- yeah you know we feared there. Yet I mean nothing like. 2003 when he walked toward thirty -- the -- that was off the charts it. Anyway so that's our that's -- ten to six to show list again some people can remember. John Madden don't need to say anymore about him Willie McCovey. First truly beloved Giants. Rick Barry. Easily the most impact a warrior ever Ricky Henderson we already gave him bonds did him the next five is next next Tuesday at 8 o'clock. Pretty inherently great if robbery that's where I don't thanks for coming in.
