Dennis Scott gossip from the chronicle serves as a chronicle. This team has always had a history under Al Davis. Giving players a lot of personal freedom latitude what Avery -- wondering what you would call it. You've been described as a disciplinarian. Is this going to be. Kind of a shift to change a change of culture under you you don't. I I wasn't here with mr. Davis on -- you know I don't know exactly how -- things were run what I do know is that. The way that I view that you coach players did you coach -- any coach -- fair and you hold him accountable. To their actions. And and that's what we're gonna do here. I don't know how it was done in the past because I wasn't here. But I do know that that's what I believe and. Coach in the very far back -- playing -- TV up follow up on Scott's question list and I'm speaking hypotheticals. Let's say I am a gifted yet -- disciplined football player here for the Raiders and making constant just -- whenever. What do you tell me behind closed doors to get me. On the right track. Well as dinner and they. We've got to have a discussion about. Rule a play that we will play the best players. We won't play the players are gonna make make plays for us in the place it and the players are not gonna give up big plays for the other team and at the end of the day. If we have talented players. That are competing and -- make employees. -- we have to look at making changes and non you know that's what that's what being in the first year here because you're out regime is all about and we're evaluate every single player on this team and really do everything we can Begin to play the best -- can play. He had -- still barber Santa Rosa press Democrat you played for some very strong defense is at Texas in him. Where they're strategies and principles of defense that you learned there that still shape you as a coach. Well I think that's where we first kind of got the good -- fast aggressive. Attacking salad defense I mean you know on the wrecking crew there and AM. You know I was fortunate enough to be a part of that was the style of defense that we played. I was obviously fortunate enough to have coach under Wade Phillips who. Kind of runs same type of attacking aggressive type defense. Greg Williams there's another -- runs that same. Philosophy of defense and so -- so yeah I was I've been fortunate to be a part of I'm really good coaches and really good teams have been able run that sound defense and you know that's that's kind of philosophy that I take. Reggie Brown my -- -- with KCBS radio. Obviously as your first big decision you've made since you've become the general manager how do you feel you'll be judged by this and certainly if if -- is successful -- favorably upon you. Or vice Versa. For this this is in Rivera. We joke about wins and losses. Yes -- -- There's always going to be -- if I'm going to be just. We win. Good decision. We don't. Gaza war and that's how we did this so it is really that simple. -- as does apologize again from CSN California I can't promote you Reggie being a former linebacker and -- coach from being a defensive minded coach. What do you both see and Rolando McClain. -- -- talented football player. I -- very talented football player I think I think I'm just like a lot of things that we talked about already. You know we've got to do our best to make sure that we get from Rolando played the best of his ability on every single snap. And -- that's that's what our. -- that's what the goal many football coaches -- try to develop them and can get the most out of their players. And that's what we're gonna do in and that's forward to strive to do. What's Rolando. He is a very talented player and he can make an impact on this defense. It's -- very. I'm not -- generation because they hit. -- the guys that's coming is. Hands down I don't know I'm looking forward to giving me here. And I watched him go through all season. And -- through -- conclusion. Just not just him all these guys I'm I'm looking forward to it. Making these players and given norm and a good feel performance since I've been on the fifth. In the coach soundscan. Yes or here -- tennis. Two questions really one you if I was taking my nose properly so you want an aggressive up tempo spread offense. Is there an offensive system in the league that you admire that that you'd like to emulate number one and number two. You mentioned how you don't wanna put any boundaries on yourself but I'm wondering what point in your career. You saw I could be as head coach and also how many times you've interviewed for other head coaching job. -- Well there's a lot of great offenses in the National Football League. That those guys. I watched over the years so to say that there's just one that I'm really. Look at that in the end and got us well you know wish that we can be. You know again. Did the exact scheme that you run. Is not there's not as important he is our NBA because a team that can. I think the more you can. Substitute. The more you can show on different formations and more you can show different shifts. You can go at the end of -- -- be able run on the same plays. And make it simple for your players. That's what's critical. You know obviously you know how will point out one that's. Was extremely. Impressive to watch because I was on the team and that was in New Orleans Saints. And they did an outstanding job and that's exactly what they what they did. As far as the up tempo. Our offense. On. On your second question about. You know being a head coach broke. Tell you repeat the question some extra interest where you want it to. -- do interviews. Today it was this year. Interview was saying those Rams and then obviously Oakland Raiders. No other opportunities before this year. I think I knew it it at a young age. I didn't know at a young age that I wanted to be a football coach. And it's interesting as you go along you know when I was in junior -- wanted to junior high coach. When I was in high school and their high school coach college when nick college coaching pros wanted to be a pro coach and non. So I think it with every step that you that I took from. Yard gain a little bit more confidence or remove more foresight to say hey maybe this next step is -- next step for me. So exactly when that was. I don't know exactly when that was. But I was excited that I got the opportunity. To -- Reggie and I was excited that he felt confident enough for me and and not. My name in -- next head coach. Reggie mentioned the last press conference that bit of tennis is gonna pick his own coaching staff and that was something that was important to you that the coach picks is on staff. Those -- he could break down for a stadium. Sort of -- to the structure between you and him. Well maybe -- basically bring in the talent -- -- coached a team in the field to practice schedules all that what what parts what you house. Say in what parts will he have sand. -- this is. This is a team effort. Can we go but I didn't players. Working with kids that can hear how we normally do things. And for both. We gonna do this thing together. So if I -- is you have this week we're not doing my thing. The right hand would know what -- Livingstone. We -- in this thing together.
