How about the best men's basketball team in the Bay Area that's right ranking number 21 in the nation. Saint Mary's College that -- get the job done in the WCC this year they could win the crown. This year and let's bring in their Coach Randy Bennett he joins us here on chronicle live presented by Farmers Insurance it. -- he'll start sample is this what you expect everyone thinks they're gonna have a good year but 233 is this what you expected the season play out like. They never know on the twice in three billion people ask me before this is that a team is going to be accelerated. I -- it has figured team man I don't think. I usually am pretty conservative on that I decide I felt pretty confident that our leadership when -- Robert Turner is all conference players and we lost make a deal was really good player but I'd just -- had a -- -- and usually do and they have a lot of returning. And some good leadership I think the usual. We only engine we'll do pretty well. You know I introduced you guys as the number 21 ranked team in the nation how much you guys get caught up in that you take a look at the national ranking at all. You know I can only speak for myself. Leg. You know hopefully they're thirteen. Well -- of course of our team when it when I can. Can feel my own feeling on -- bit I don't you cut up and then it's. There's so many other things going on as far as. Next game where teams that things we have to deal was done on our team at the conference title race. -- -- The rankings it's it's a bonus it's nice. It's nice to be recognized but. It's. It's fleeting a game you lose a game they can disappear so. I don't think our team does and we didn't another thing is we've been ranked the last five years our guys. Have dealt with that we still appreciated and we -- recognize how hard it is to get ranked. But at the same time. Maybe they are I think our guys are premature and they understand that. It doesn't it doesn't being others some people think you're good. You know Randy -- remember once talking in the old Princeton coach Pete Correll when he told me that he learned a lot more about his teams in losses that he ever did in the wind so we use that as our guide. What did you learn about this year's Saint Mary's gaels considering the loss you guys heading inside the last. Hi hey you know I think. Coach drills probably talking about. Win that happen. Tend to look at what you're doing. Thought you may Channing do it as a coach and when that happens you go back. He would try to fix it and so you don't see what you doing you watch a little more carefully when you win. He's a guy you might look over some things and good. So I think that's happened what with us I think a rebounding. We were four and Arenas I think this -- -- there were. The good rebounding team this year or and they were top touring the country in that area. And we get -- on the boards fifteen so that hasn't happened all year so we -- -- in our blocking out things like that. And then the other -- -- did defensively. And then just some errors and boom where our breakdowns are and what we need to do to correct -- so like today were watching film on nine game. We have much time in between games and now go back and address that trying to clean up our defense and rebounding I think this time year gets down to that. Right now Saint Mary's on top of the West Coast Conference but the RPI for the conference's at number eleven Renyel you speak to it. Just how tough is the West Coast Conference. It's it's tough way every conference would say that about their -- conference that it had the addition of BYU is made it. Pretty pretty tough for the top I think our middle has gotten better and I get. The his double teams are struggling today even -- seasoning -- Won more games and non conference this year and I think some of them are like I think. -- -- -- game have been playing pretty well and now that can happen as this. Right and hasn't gotten better they're playing on the roads lemmings -- government and the top of our league this. And there's. There's four teams that are. Have a really good seasons and then there's two or three teams that are having pretty good seasons so. That's it's as deep as our conference has been -- as good as it's been in the top of the line. And Randy talk to anyone who -- Bay Area college basketball they -- this year Saint Mary's team best Bay Area college men's team that they have seen. But the question is this why don't we ever see Saint Mary's taken on cal or take on Stanford. Prior when conference play begins as there is there a situation I think fans who want to see that. You know I think is something that might happen in the future I think. Furloughs for teams in the pac twelve sometimes they view these games is not everything you lose nothing to gain that Hank. Our track record over the last we'll separate years I think in my view that a little differently now I would we. We won a lot of games and so I think it's it's a good game for them it's a good draw. I know we would be open to -- I think they'll be open to it to within this got to be in the right place right time. I don't take either.
