49ers course on the clock at number thirty overall and to discuss just what might happen. On draft day we once again bring Eric Davis man -- welcome -- we also welcoming -- any minute for in the Bay Area news group and does first thing's first let's throw the possibility of -- faulty being aggressive or perhaps I'm going down in the draft as anybody here. Think that he will make a move lets see I think the fans cannot dampen the I want them to go up I think you know they're drafting in the thirtieth cy right now. Why not go up let's be aggressive go up trade up for the guy that you really want that can help this team. I mean their windows open right now -- championship contender if you see a guy that you want to go up and get them I mean I don't know. This team down have a lot of needs -- why don't get guys such an album that we can't can't you don't need to you just stated they don't have enough a lot of needs but they don't have that complete roster just yet I don't -- position yet this argument of draft picks but -- you're not gonna have seven guys make in this team -- seven picks -- and there's no. You have the rookie salaries -- I guess you're not gonna break the bank I don't know if there's not a bobbled the debate is about getting solid players and I think you have an opportunity even at thirty to get a player because they're not gonna jump up and get -- starter anyway. So it because it -- without giving up the rest of the draft you got to give up to a three. But picks to go up that high so I think it. You better off staying where you law are using your picks and building through his draft that they have a solid draft they have an opportunity to be a good team for a long time. Also listen I'll settle -- score -- -- united rarely agree I agree with you this time you're -- yet because they've had to get -- obviously the first round pick their second and a fourth to move up -- that eighteen to twenty -- he talk about foreigners not having a lot of -- I think they do have a lot -- they have a lot of needs for depth they need to -- back at that safety they need it interior offensive -- perhaps defense -- line they need another pass -- back up and they need a lot of guys so I think it would sort of weaken their -- if there to go up just to get one guy. Matt let's pretend -- know a guy like a Michael Floyd do a lot of people thinking you're going to top ten bullets for Ted Michael Floyd still sitting on the board at 1617. And older is their chance that the forty yards if there's a guy like that they really like that they should go after. I don't know that they would jump up to get a wide receiver like that because this that this team is based on the run game. And I think you'll only get somebody. Who you really are gonna feature and I think that you would Michael Floyd be. Better than Crabtree year wine. You know they they paid some money for Manningham I don't know that you would jump up there to get a guy. I think you could stay at thirty and comfortably get a guy but I'm not big and getting wide receivers early in the draft let's. About the wide receivers though because there are four that really are projected to be first round picks the last of them could fall to the 49ers Stephen helped me -- maybe shades of a Calvin Johnson take these big east -- -- get downfield Eric what do you think about one after guy like that that. A lot like him a lot but I -- with Matt I would jump up to I'd get in but I didn't like -- if he was the you're only thirty -- right. Guy like him it's very I'm not real big on drafting received receivers early but at thirty. That with that size army is almost like a tidy inherent parity I have see the cornerback here I don't know I don't know here and I don't know if it's the skill positions I would drafted a cornerback at Charlotte how I. You know everybody talks about David Castro out of Stanford going to be way he's gonna -- for the niners are on the clock at thirty. I think if you're gonna turn it up that's a possibility because that's obviously the one vacancy and they're starting lineup he's a -- got -- Harbaugh knows. And so that's one possible maybe go Kobe thing or another Stanford guy at tight end. It jumping back to it to Stephen help but think that the fascinates me about him as it. He didn't catch a whole lot of passes a Georgia Tech because they had they ran the triple option so this guy knows how to block. I think he he's a very inexperienced wide receivers so I think the 49ers could get their coaches on him and really sort of -- mould him the way they want but we know he's tall six with four and has blazing speed so it is very intriguing if he's there at thirty -- I think that's a strong possible I -- Ought to go back -- parts of the name that has got brought up in passing coldly player because this is interesting you figure they've got Delanie Walker. Then they've got Vernon Davis they don't really need a tie that it's more of a luxury pick you know what. Who did they do real -- inside. -- they do a good idea you think about what Jim Harbaugh -- done you go back all the way back to the University of San Diego had three tight end sets that that's that's what he was trying to do last year that is his offense it's not the West Coast offense as the midwest -- they're gonna beat you up they're physical team they want the tight ends and everyone talks about that passing -- you up that big tall receiver like this even hill. If you the way the rules are now you wanna -- you get a bit tight hand right there in a quarterback's face. You have your red zone to -- you have -- that big deep ball president's right there and ability feel once you get down to the red zone so I think it's very important to have that I think they're gonna look at ankle with cleaner the guided I've been saying all along. I wouldn't be shocked if they tried to get on the team. -- this relationship with Harbaugh I think in fourth -- pick golf is there. I -- I don't think so because I mean you look at the draft last year in the Franzen taking -- for gods and know that the Harbaugh wanted to take sound but Harbaugh made this comment at the -- bike races eleven Stanford guys I'm so close to I don't know whether I -- over evaluating of them are under evaluating them and basically comes down to -- Had he they didn't have a player as good is -- you know coming in real crap luck if the player with a good player eagle with his relationship. Past relations and its effort he drafted and they're not definitely not all I want is an out. A one Maurice a clash of obviously older basic human and mid round type -- guy. But the -- Kobe fleeing her fits the 49ers because the 49ers do such a good job of having their personnel. Fit their office heard that you would. Molding their offense to their personnel so. Kobe Flint river relaxed here the 49ers needed it tied in late in the season when Delanie Walker had a fractured job so. Just from that standpoint there's only one injury away from from tied -- being an -- and Delanie Walker is not signed for next season so -- cleaner we get I think a lot of playing time year one in -- get a whole lot of playing time your tail. Can you brought up David tester on the O line what are about the big boys -- Wisconsin you like those at the thirtieth pick you know what I. I'm gonna say no I think if you're good -- no offence the right cards in the world but I mean if you look at the the ball in the right guard is not the most vital position so. Yes it's a vacant spot but I think you're only gonna -- -- first round pick on one if you're gonna get the number one guy like David Castro OK yes there's a couple other prospects out there but then again. Why not let -- Morales -- now. Personally I think the niners and blocked -- and I think we're gonna go defense the defense is the best part of that team if you can add depth to your defense I would do that. Eric let's go back to cornerback we talked about this in the first segment when a player like -- Jenkins. I'm north Alabama course played at Florida and they hit back to -- the team had to go finish his career. -- north Alabama but here's a kid with a ton of potential. Didn't get into a lot of trouble with the law arrested multiple times. I'm drug related charges is he a guy though that if his talent is there that the 49ers might want to look past the off field issues and take a chance on. I don't think off the field issues with scare them but I don't think he'll grab and the thirtieth pick again you talk about the skills that would also think about the way the league is going the way the rule we're going he's not a big. Caught hey you're gonna end I think if he was a little taller maybe and it's 510511. If he was in the sixth one -- brains I think they would probably be more willing to go after him at that at that slot if he failed to with a with a skill set but I don't see them go and even with that. And I just don't see that happening. Is that Eric Davis stocking hats all that. This is the guy who once told me that there's a name for a 61 cornerback. Public safety yeah now that that is there that there's been -- for 61 cornerback but also all the league is changing and you need that because the way the rules are you have to have someone they can -- to jump balls -- did that to get out there and get them and this style defense that they play. If you just have to millions of the -- changing the league is changing so you have to adapt to it and and I agree with you you don't put him in positions to do those things but they already have that guy that size on their team and teeing ground. So that they're not gonna go out and get another one of those. Let's talk also the defense some boys up front how would major role worthy of -- Brandon Thompson looked on this team -- Yeah you know I liked the idea of getting somebody on the defensive front there may be Andre branch out of Clemson as well. I just you know you have Justin Smith and Ray McDonald -- and -- with Isaac Sopoaga at that nose tackle. You know they played a lot of snaps last season they're very -- those guys did get hurt. And the depth behind -- -- question marks I think tonight it really should look and see what other options exist there. It would that the forty hours broke camp last year with obviously the three starters and then Ricky John France along the will to cool off so. They also head. Ian Williams and demarcus dobbs. All back in defense alignment and the reason they kept that many guys was because of for -- soft something in those guys and saying you know what there's there's something here let's give him a year to develop. So I think this is a big year. The forty -- can draft a guy on the defense of line but also I think they expect all of those guys and to take major leaps forward. And get more into the rotation and give a break. To Ray McDonald had to justice that you guys who played a lot of football -- and Williams and dobbs neither one of them are drafted last year ran the out right now both undrafted create. Does record let me throw wildcard into the mix here because it clearly there's that you think -- center running back with Frank -- -- -- -- -- Kendall -- they bring in Brandon Jacobs. But if a guy like a -- -- from Boise State was to follow -- would that be something they have to consider. I don't think Doug Martin would be that guy but in I don't. I have a difficult time thinking that they would take a guy at number thirty but I do believe at some point they will take a running back and look at the two guys right now. That the big running back -- Frank Gore is a starter Brandon Jacobs. The backup right now -- -- -- -- of more change of pace guy but those are seven year backs they need somebody eventually to take over a full time guy.
