We continue on chronicle live presented by farmers insurance and the Olympics are coming up you can see money NBC family of networks and one of the events I'm most loved watching it. Diving whether it's spring board of or platform. And look at the dominance the United States -- shown over the years but they have not won since golden 2000. For Laura Wilkinson I believe that was on the platform if my diving. History is correct we continue along the way our -- conversation goes 3-D this time because this year's US diving team is gonna have a very familiar Stanford Cardinal look to it. I am seated around some of the best in -- world all from Stanford the head coach of the US diving team from Stanford. -- voting joining us here also Cassidy -- I got it right she's gonna make it on a three meter springboard. And then C pro diving is Christian hits and -- get to all of this they all go to Stanford I wanna serve with a coach because usually coaches. They have great long careers first and then they probably were successful at the highest level of that sport won a bunch of medals Rick. Tell us about your history indictment that. There is -- there is none out that you did get a. Glad that's Bombay's phone college -- I cannot really do Ph.D. And I had taught diving from because I had done in the summits when they did my masters at Maryland so I came out and do a Ph.D. And I was teaching some tennis and doing my Ph.D. and got bullets went down in the pool deck. And that's the diving coach if that was the club in the area of volunteer my services. And he told me take those women. Entered the friendship title nine and he didn't wanna have to coach -- -- really outside and actually became the head women's coach at Stanford by walking down in the -- Nothing wrong with that it's the turned up pretty well for you would turn out pretty well for a lot of people like cast and crew right here help you -- I know for. Missed out again in 08 to make the Olympic team what major wanna come back and try again this year. I love diving. I mean I and I took a little break after and missed out of LA and I realized how much they -- -- how much him this summer signing how much night. And didn't really think I had to realize my potential -- talent to come back and try again. And how much did you get pushed by your family because you're not the only -- -- -- correct. I'm not now my dad is actually the head coach at University of Pittsburgh. And you know not very much it's always been my decision. They've been parents first such -- second -- The one that decided. In -- to come back into this. All right Christian you are local gun made good with a de LaSalle high school your friend Clayton. And and I wanna get in the experience of being unseen grow diving when did you start sinker -- three dive with someone else and perform the exact same routines so what did you get involved in that. Right I Benson synchronized diving earlier. Ends and at the junior level. With a few people but in 2009 I got paired up with my current -- apartment for the -- he's in the past three Olympics and now. Yes finger diving is you do the same dives at the same time and I in the -- -- count I go 123 go. And we walked on the board at the same time we just try to do everything thing. Do you ever notice that you get any anxiety when you're at the end of the board because I would think with all eyes -- you right at the end of the board you know. You gotta bounce and go and everything's gotta be time for it. Yeah I do get anxiety but I feel like Troy and I have worked really really hard we've been diving -- for along time now so we've worked on synchronized diving stop much and now it's pretty much for just focusing on individual wants like how we just spoke up for the summer and that that. And Rick I know there's a there's a story about Christian when you were going to the board of admissions. What did you tell him about his career and what eventually would be if they allowed him to come to Stanford and -- -- I think I told them that he could win a national title every year signing as a freshman. Starting as a freshman he will win four or could win yet the potential to be even more time NCAA champion. They'll be more and fourth time yet he could be a fourth time LB to. At least one meter and three -- national champions every what did you see in him that made you believe. As high praise out there to say it to go walk it is a pretty powerful people say you want someone special this kid special what is different about him. Price really count -- community he's as I say he's interest in jeans and at least he knows twist is we -- excited bodies thought. I really honestly don't him coaches twist. I just tell him what does it feel like Connecticut and really the that's -- that's the best way to enough for you casting it and your contract platform. Now at I think I'll -- that they may be too platform practices on -- got to Stanford and then decided as a springboard can say that the -- -- That's what they decide to be a springboard diver is to jump off the plant and you -- -- the best way to do it definitely everyone has a goal of winning goal right now that this has to be extra special for you because of his background coming from a diving family. And being able to fight back. Which also started in the difference for what other sport did you perform that maybe helps you things I was. In his first gymnastics is my first love -- And it is so helpful and -- -- have a background of strength of them getting used to being upside down and knowing what some resulting feels like end I did gymnastics on -- fifteen. What would it mean to bring back a medal gold would be absolutely fabulous but remember the US has not won since 2000. How important is to get back up on that medal stand for the US to show its world supremacy in the sport. Feel like it's so important I mean. The last couple world means having gone as well as I think as the United States have wanted for diving met. I mean I think our team going into this is so strong I think we showed it at Olympic trials I've -- looked great some really excited thirteen minutes at the Olympics right. What do you do all these great divers what do you do on the side of the that is the plot all day because they're doing so great at what you're now. I am right now I applaud period you know right now my goal is to keep them in their bodies and let them do that guys and keep them cut so. I don't really motivated more or less who we dukes and relax when I go to the -- site I really try to relax because it's it's a fine motor sports -- they don't want him really overloaded. I was watching the trials nobody listens to music like divers and you guys right out of the pool you're right there with earphones in and everything. I just want you know nothing but the best a lot represented area represent the country and Stanford as best you possibly -- that you go to London. This interview probably 3.5 degree of difficulty for me and I. Oh outscored out okay for you guys all right guys thanks very much I -- not going to like you really appreciate -- you can follow diving and every other sport during the Olympic Games in London. Having NBC Stanley network's coverage begins Wednesday July 25 that is less than three weeks and --
