Having a good many buckets of 49ers wrapped up their weeks of preparation to get ready for the Detroit Lions and the big talk obviously Calvin Johnson we talked about him their first match in -- so it's not about. The Lions others during their defensive front they return all four starters on that defensive line haven't had a year together they expect them. Different wrinkles and a stronger quicker -- difference and yes they had forced back. Against the Rams last week but Greg Norman isn't interesting things to the 49ers offense as well that can help counter that and mainly his name's Leonard Davis. Yeah I mean again Leonard Davis who never got on the playing field for the Detroit Lions last year Jim Schwartz that it wasn't because it -- like him. It's just because they couldn't find a way to get them on their Leonard Davis was -- center. Clearly still isn't to -- but. The 49ers have taken a guy that they feel can add something to that offense and they've used him as their number six. You know offensive line and he is basically -- policies starter but with a dozen snaps against the Packers we won. There is a a definite role for Leonard Davis on that offense and it's something that I think defense of players look at and go. All my. They had a couple of series -- actually -- to Leonard Davis he's playing tight end for the first time that is really different anchoring the end of the line controlling it there and then. Daniel Kilgore comes and he's a backup center he's playing wing back for the first time in his career so there really super sizing. The line by bringing in an -- Alex then had a great analogy seen the wide eyes of the Green Bay defenseman when he saw Leonard Davis cannot appeal as. Pretty funny that they were pretty surprised to see the mass -- that there afternoon at the exact fact. The 49ers offense why they -- you know it doesn't matter you know we're doing and we have that attitude we know we're doing it over in Iraq and you gotta come stop -- -- got to get through this practice well. Yeah it's all about you know on the strength of formation and Indians in the corners have that much -- out there. They're gonna outweigh the defense and there's there's no question about it they're going to be able to. You know really create some openings for Frank Gore and in the case of frank -- touchdown run -- it is -- formation it was Daniel Kilgore Leonard Davis but is also Bruce Miller. Getting out front in game creating a blocker at least creating a distraction that it enabled -- Gordon to score that touchdown so. That's something that we know this week one was that. You know in addition to all of that that the bodies that they put out there Davis Kilgore. Will -- a walk through. Bruce Miller got a lot more playing time than he usually does so it week to. The Lions have to be looking at this saying game planning going OK it was -- just a Packers specific game plan. Or is that the -- game time that we have to prepare for. Was they prepare for seeing Leonard Davis and Daniel Kilgore usually. Vernon Davis is on the field too. You know they can't just be saying hey this is a run only formation. Because. Think they'll be able to throw the ball off into it's it's a game of cat and mouse once the defense react to certain way -- Greg Roman can come back and do something now. That was the one thing I ask Greg Roman. How many new. Formations he came up with easy logistically creating jobs and he he did not know not -- -- -- for me -- -- told me how many he's a wait wait I don't want to do. I don't you tell how many -- -- what I said several are a lot you -- with that that yes but the number. It's up there so -- there's a lot of creativity using any players you know and -- that it's growing to him. I mean whatever that number is this week. Two weeks route from now three weeks from now it could be. More and in the meantime that's the thing we saw all last year how this offense evolves that's why I think he'll be one of the regular season. We saw. You know Mario Manningham get 29 snaps. -- mosque -- point once and yes via Twitter. You know we EC will we see Randy Moss is play time go up or go down. And my answer was depending on the circumstances of the game and the opponent. It'll do both it'll go up India. The one thing we talked about. As well out Johnson Mary talked about him the one player on the right team can't be overlooked last season we saw his effect. And every September and him at it through the tight end. Patrick Willis and -- -- Hector barely leaves the game and course and say it again and that's good lined up against. Brandon Pettigrew last year that was when -- first of many tight ends it. That Patrick really covered last season for the first time and every -- and he was thrown at three times -- the -- twice -- -- it quite well the third time of course -- papers or Indians. That is pretty good defense was great yet to bring down there with -- I remember that play was pretty incredible how do you think that 49ers defense pedigree is here I mean obviously. It can't be -- Well I don't know why can't and the -- I think it probably will be and I think the reason. That Willis was out of the game a lot this last game was just because. Of the what the Packers did it after the four wide outs out there and in the the 49ers countered with -- Cox in essence playing a linebacker position. And covering Randall -- out of the backfield a lot of times in -- thought I did pretty well that now granted. Randall Cobb caught nine passes all nine were intended form he thought a ball. But only for eight point six yards -- -- with the -- for a reception but -- guys passes Randall Cobb is purely holding him. To -- nine yards a catch that's not bad. Now what that the line is do is they don't send out the three and four wide receivers as much as the Packers do. So I think the -- Arsenal won't count or more with nickel as opposed to die and with nickel that means that. Willis is out there on the field and I think he still is probably the guy who will match up most likely on -- Here throughout the end. Of course disagree I know I don't disagree I think that there will be new wrinkle to it like that and we'll see some changes and one thing. I'm interested in seeing is that I did at peace -- rupees about -- brown announced he will defend Calvin Johnson because last year. It was just -- cornerback on line or whoever. Calvin Johnson lined up in front -- that is who covered him and throw them was in on three targets for Calvin Johnson and Chris -- as a -- did very very well. Last year Chris all of our only played. On the left side this offseason he also learned right corner so I will be curious to see when they start switching him that both sides. And if he will shadow Calvin and certain situations here. Here's what I think of France -- defense is that I think thinking you have so much confidence in these guys that it's like you know what. We're gonna let whatever wherever you go with that's your we're not gonna change what we do that they did last that's what they did last season and also. That -- when he talked to the media Thursday said something to the effect. We're gonna have to play Calvin Johnson straight up a lot pieces. The majority of the time will play him straight up there's only gonna be so many times in the course of the game where they really focus in on him and my question was. Why -- people to stand on every play aces because it. Is it. Telegraphed exactly Rory went for doing. It sort of weakens the integrity of the defense but it also tell you right there. That the 49ers are saying you know bring it -- will defended what it also does though. Now countered that -- If if Calvin Johnson gets a few big plays on the Burnett when they're playing him straight up it also leaves it and he'll open to a lot of second guess. Why would they double covering him. And so he's. Maybe use sort of you know. Maybe as a smokescreen. Did you know that Jim Harbaugh would never even give me it's percentage of what their plan to do in the game but so maybe that is a smokescreen but. I think it does sort of point to the fact that the 49ers. Feel like here loaded across the board. From the defense line to linebackers to the secondary this year that secondary. I think it's pretty good even when they have to go to sixty cents at bats I don't think it was much at all. And if there is like you said. Only man man coverage and there is no coverage on the backside and Calvin Johnson it'll take advantage of that I can certainly see -- -- made -- very quick adjustment and you haven't kind I would think so as well yeah that's something that. You know it would last very long and no it's certainly lives. Foreigners have been pretty good at making adjustments though. We'll see on Sunday adapted to.
