The Giants host the San Diego Padres this weekend and they have a chance to clinch the NL west but. Everyone still talking about Melky Cabrera the man who broke the story on CSN Bay Area dot com our giant insider and drew back to Lee joins us from AT&T park and Andrew. Melky brought this up with the unions first two brought it to Major League Baseball why did -- decided do this. Obviously this is part of repairing his image he's damaged his reputation he was this a fifty game suspension for a testosterone use -- damaged his. Value on the open market is a guy who was gonna get probably five or six years minimum. At ten or twelve million plus a year. And now it looks like he's probably gonna have to sign a short term contract and prove people he can do what he's done the last two seasons. And still pass a drug test so that. Clearly this is part of him rehabbing his image. Operas coaching just telling us that good for Melky he thought but it says something about his character obviously it's an olive branch to Major League Baseball and and he's. He's hoping to find a place to play next season a team that'll take him and given an opportunity to prove that he can. They'll be that sort of a sensation that he wasn't San Francisco this year. The situation certainly is -- usual for Major League Baseball but how much in this opening camp warms for baseball. And that they're altering the -- And I don't think that Major League officials would do that he wouldn't open a pandora's box because then you can look at every record in the book obviously there's so many. Over the steroid air you can start with the all time home run record obviously. And what what they did is they they -- -- Able to. In reinforced on enforce a rule rule ten. Point 228. And what that -- does is it allows somebody who is does not have enough plate appearances to qualify for the batting title to be considered qualified. If you add in some empty at bats and their average is still higher than any qualified player Melky Cabrera was just one plate appearance short. You have to averaged three point one plate appearances for every game your team plays. So what Melky was one plate appearance short of that number when you -- the at bat is average just goes down a few hundreds or or or thousands of a point. And he'd still be hitting 346 -- still be leading by a comfortable margin so. They feel let just. On enforcing this role for the time being a one time thing they feel that it's a unique situation it's not gonna open up the -- were. So while -- steps aside to repair his image is there another giant who might be the real beneficiary of this. Is it Buster Posey who could come out smelling like roses. Absolutely Buster Posey C 335. -- McCutcheon entered the game hitting 339. So they're very much neck and neck in -- McCutchen still has. A little bit of breathing room it's very difficult to make up a lot of points than your average this late in the season but. You know we -- Buster Posey about that today and he said he's very much just focused on team goals the Willie Mac award winner today the most inspirational giant. He said you know what what when when the team in the World Series in 2010 they got to share it with. The entire city. And -- have experience at the parade and that's really what's driving him. He's not gonna delve into the controversy of a -- the numbers. But obviously a lot of Chinese fans are going to be pulling proposing to win this award and -- but she said if he does when it. It doesn't really. He deserves it because he's been here all year goalkeeper has not been here earlier. All right and your bag really great work on this story will continue to follow you would CSN Bay Area dot com thanks for joining us here got a lot.
