Maiocco: 'There is absolutely no QB controversy right now'
Maiocco says the Rams had the game won, thinks the 49ers won't announce their starting QB until right before the game starts next Monday, and claims Alex Smith is definitely the starting QB when healthy.
A day later we we set it was weird yesterday a day later after listening to Jim. And a tie. Is that feeling today they got lucky because the Rams shot themselves in the -- together tires it's still got a lot of disappointment dominant Santa Clara. Well I mean I still think that people don't really know how to react because. It doesn't kill them that they have this tie I -- now I'm really pretty much still needs where they stand in the NFC and there'll be no need. Pretty tiebreaker formulas or anything else you'll see that if the 49ers have. Either more wins than one team or fewer losses. They're going to -- that's where they stand. But I think if you look at it from the rams' standpoint from the Rams had that game. And there are several times. I usually does it seem like ten seconds after the fact where it looked like the Rams had whining you see up flagged down and not so they got to feel like there really let one get away -- but. What went study disappointing for the 49ers that they. They stayed in the game they took the lead midway through the fourth quarter and you would think that that's when the superior team should say we got the lead rolled onto it. And the defense simply did not close the deal so that's going to be the most distressing thing that they had a chance that they let get away. Do you think of course -- -- you know who won't -- you even sort of have any timetable when do you think. At least they'll let us the media now. Whether Colin capital at her Alex Smith is gonna start this week. I would say probably right before the first series of the game Monday night. When you see whether number eleven or number twelve or number seven runs out there on the field but. I think will be able to tell just by a win Alex Smith is cleared if he's cleared to play. He'll play right now all indications are that he was -- he's gonna be cleared to play. But will -- find that out later in the week but as far I can't imagine it but Jim Harbaugh -- -- -- In the drop me anytime soon he'll want the Bears to to try to. Guess -- prepare for it can't cap for -- running just as much as they prepare for the 49ers. With the assumption that Alex Smith will be quarterback. Now that -- Dennis and I were discussing about this in other towns and then bring it pointed out correctly that some love the controversy with. Montana and young right now it's not a quarterback controversy but it this type of thing is the type of thing where. It could get in the one if if if -- what. I don't know you're talking about. Alex Smith say a guy who's a quarterback for a team that went thirteen to three last season in the regular season. Had one of the they're great comebacks ever in the playoffs that would to win a game against the Saints. Heads into this season as the unquestioned starting quarterback. And a guy who right now ranks. Third in the NFL in passing efficiency. Not only that he ranks third in the NFL. Gain yards per attempt which is a key statistic. And usually it's a statistic where guys who throw a lot of low percentage passes. But tries hit the ball down the field for a lot of interceptions. So. When you look at what Alex Smith has done through nine games. Then this is a guy who completed eighteen out of nineteen passes against the Arizona Cardinals ending yesterday completed seven out of eight passes with a touchdown so. There's absolutely no quarterback controversy. Right now. Now in 2013. We'll deal -- how when he comes. But let's remember Alex Smith think dollar -- predict or both signed under contract to branch for the same amount of time I would think at some point. Before college cap for next contract expires -- wanted to know whether he could be a starting quarterback in the NFL right now they think he can. But he's not gonna be taken out Smith's job anytime soon. They'll go from Santa Clara thanks bud good to see how they thought it.
