Has Brees received a pass for Bountygate?
Sean Pamphilon joins CSN for his first TV interview since the scandal broke to talk about Drew Brees' role in Bountygate.
-- charming and -- -- Gregg williams' sad about getting the body get ahead in the and you get the body in here and all that where you. We shocked were you surprised there or did it not even throw you. Well at the time I was shooting two cameras because I was doing it all myself. And because of that I heard the repetitive line until they had the body will die. And at first I thought he was speaking metaphorically. You know you take out the top player and -- a team. And you neutralize that are in neutralize their offense what he's taught him a Frank Gore. But because I wasn't. Totally dialed into him and I was looking through view finders. I didn't understand exactly the gravity of what was going on. And also. The bounty gate program had never really been discussed publicly at least as it is that related to the Saints. So I didn't understand exactly the context of what I was seeing. I knew that once he mentioned about going towards Kyle Williams has had. Specifically and also targeting. Alex Smith -- That he was talking about knockout shots and that was something that I had every intention of discussing. In my from the united states of football I wasn't in and I wasn't in in name. Greg Williams. But I was gonna referenced the fact that I. I was witness to this. It was when the story broke in the National Football League put the information out there. That I went back of my phone partner and we listened. To it and listening to it vs shooting it was a whole different experience for me. And once I actually heard it I tried and earnest to put this out and have it the people that I was working with and dorsett. When you found out what you have and you decided to put put it out. I understand you had I uniquely action from Drew Brees what did you tell you. Well Drew Brees is actually part of it. You know the day before. The audio became public. Scott Fujita contacted me and you know I was very interest in. Be an advocate for players so the strategy is very big on health and safety a lot of respect for. His personal stance -- and he was very much in favor of releasing this audio as we discussed for the previous month. Drew Brees was involved because Steve Gleason felt it was important that -- was on board hasn't represented at the Saints. So during that time you know Scott Andrew I was told we're involved and you know in favor of it and it was also my understanding that Steve was. So when I released it. Two Yahoo! Sports two months over. It was my understanding that we were all working in unison and what happened was later on. A few hours before they audio actually came out they want to -- my writing an essay that I was putting out with it. And that's what we had the problem in the fall out and that's where people. Got the erroneous notion that I did this myself I was actually directed towards it it was an action and I wanted to take and I thought we were wrong conjunction with -- Brees tried to control the message and was actively involved you wanted to. He wanted to explain. What it meant. To the American public what a whacked him what he wanted to put it in context. So that's why he's trying to get involved in and in control when I was writing. So so Briggs was OK with the releasing of the audio and and but he want to put. Is on narrative to explain. Exactly and he was he was absolutely in and in conjunction and working with -- he left me a voice now. That some my website I'm Shawn -- dot com. He left me a voice -- where he stated that we just wanna see. The writing before it hits the wire before it comes out is made public. And that's one of the things I haven't quite understood. In terms of the aftermath of this that. People have given him a pass on that he was involved and he's continually continually denied. That the program even exists well if the program doesn't exist how can you define a -- it if you don't know what what it is so. That's a question that other people should be asking Drew Brees. Especially the national NFL media and the answer is this if they're ever gonna broach that topic with a after you found out what they had Shawn did you -- some of the players how common this was and would any of them speak with the I didn't I didn't speak to. I didn't speak to the players in the Saints about it. Former saint Scott Fujita told me that this was something that he had heard since he -- Since he was eight years old. And that was honestly one of the reasons why -- wanted to make that audio public and shooting. The united states of football over three year period. Sudden I've been covering this issue for three years I heard that every single level some form of that speech. From Peewee all the way up to you know to junior high school to high school and you know I just don't think there's. Human beings should ask other human beings. To do that to each other and all and I've been a lifelong football fan since I was seven. But that there's a line that got crossed and I thought that was important that people understood it we can you know put a stop to it. Last question John and and electric out what has been the reaction from the league -- Received any threats or or negative feedback from the league -- fans what what. What has been your response to answer your reaction.
