Continue on chronicle live this is Bill Daly the NHL deputy commissioner -- the negotiations with the players quote I would hope that the players wanna play. And wanna have a season but I'm not sure at the end of the day that the -- uncertain terms that union leadership necessarily shares that goal. Maybe a shot at the guys. Negotiate for the players that's Donald -- welcome back in chronicle live any -- which sticks around -- -- senior senator Kevin cars are Sharks insider so -- wanna drag him in on this and I told you about mediation. That was going to be going out in the NHL and the players association and yet it needs to be clarified so Kevin can you clarify the mediator part well they had. -- a mediator. To come in and then leave them on Wednesday. And then the guy had all these weird tweets that it's it's it's such a strange story but the bottom line is. The guy they originally chose was out within an hour -- so that they are gonna have mediation now between the two sides did you think that would be 422. Missed gains into a lockout. I don't you -- to you feeling good soccer because knowing I didn't think you get this far I really did think they figure something now by Thanksgiving just because. You know they they didn't seem like they were all that far apart in the weeks leading up to where we are now but in truth they really are there's there's there's a lot of differences they have worked out yet. And you know mediation right now I'm not sure how much is gonna help but it can't hurt. All right. They're gonna get to a somebody a mediator of some kind Rae good or bad news that they have somebody that's eventually gonna listen to the two sides of maybe try to build a bridge. Not relevant for one simple reason. The sides are not close enough to know what the common ground is because their argument. Is philosophical they've always just money they could move numbers around and make that work 'cause monetarily and they're only a 192 million apart. That's not that big -- gap. But philosophically. They're still miles apart. And then the quote you saw from Bill -- again today trying to basically make this about -- fear losing -- and I. Unfair yes he has -- and it's not working with the players and so the more -- need -- that the more players go. -- you know we're not buying that and if you're gonna if you wanna make a strike last longer. Hit the players and the place went that they understand is wrong. And this is wrong if you've got a problem in negotiations. The problem is with the negotiators you put -- in the room. When they're throwing it out the public they're basically challenging the players to turn on the guys they elected and they're not gonna do that. So you -- -- figure -- a different way of attacking has. Or just shut up because this is making it worse not better all right. Business -- to decide Indy is there any business advantage to miss some 422 games in an all star game the potentially missing -- season how could anyone the NHL particular benefit from the stands. Absolutely I got the -- I got to see gone war asleep playing on NHL classics out of class. I mean that's that's how mandolin player and I think without a mask if -- plot without a mask coming. Let's go to bat seriously. You have three important -- here the owners the players and the fans. And unfortunately. For the fans the owners and the players know that as soon as the puck does drop. Whether it's a month from now or seven months from now they'll be back any other sport goes through what hockey is gone in the last five years. There are looking at a year or two or three. Of major problems as soon as there's hockey. Those fans -- back in the seats and this is the one sport. That doesn't have enough. Depth in its fan base if these people said enough with you you've screwed us twice in five years you'd see this get unsolved real quickly. All right players on this thing I want to get to obscure hockey games Troy -- capitals in Roman handle it handle it came out kind of hoped the players association -- we wanna play. Troy -- comes out and says how can I trust him and another teammate -- as teammates if they're gonna be doing this is there fracturing with the players. Well look at -- had more -- one player told me a player to me as recently as a couple days ago that these conference calls it the there's they're certainly discussion there's a lot of guys that heated discussion yes I know that there's that at this point you know were just based on Maria on the calendar that's sure to happen and I think. Just because of that the owners I don't think -- quite put their best offer on the table just yet because I think you know they do anticipate. The union fracturing and and they start sorting themselves in the -- -- the players. It one player so there's gonna be 700 different opinions. That's not so that all right guys thanks to stick around the NHL discussion I just wish it was about the puck on the ice. Teams -- and in those.
