Pratt: 'There will be a lot of movement in A's starting lineup'
Transcript
Guess what the projected starting lineup looks like for the defending AL west champions Bob Melvin has gotten most of his -- coming back with the addition of Chris Young splitting time between outfield and he -- The with a loss and an everyday shortstop as it stands right now. Welcoming Casey Pratt is CSN California dot com -- what are your senses that the projected lineup that we just saw there will look a lot like the actual one. Opening day in April 23 team is going to be really hard to pay the projected lineup for opening day because it's gonna depend on. Who's pitching because the a's are going to be using a lot of platoons plea to -- ball as we like -- -- openly in the newsroom. Also you have to wonder how guys are get a handle playing. And not playing as much as they might with guys like Chris Young who's gonna be somebody who wants to play every day he might be seeing some time on the bench they have a ton of outfield depth so. You're gonna see guys rotating in and out of that DH spot. With guys like -- -- is Chris to protect their legs guys like Chris Young might be taking time off to to get a Seth Smith in the lineup you're gonna have. All kinds of different situations and a lot of movement in the starting lineup. You know -- think plutonium ball's gonna catch on here. We'll see if -- really say it enough times people might actually go with that let's hope that it's just our office I know he's -- that ten million dollar option on Stephen Drew and now basically he's just floating around reports say that he's still talking to Oakland. And of course he does have some history with the skipper Bob Melvin but what are the chances and he comes back to expect when he also -- a good relationship but. Chip hale the bench coach who also coached him and Arizona is a good relationship with the guys in the clubhouse we just won the American League west with the any a's have that glaring hole at shortstop self. While the a's are interested in drew you would think would be interested in coming back it's gonna depend if the price is right and you know they gave have a big Moreno at shortstop. If they can't get Stephen Drew to come back. You're looking at a lot of question marks in that infield so signing drew does a lot for them both offensively and defense -- and they need to get that deal done. Chris Young going to be new to the team next season what would you expect his balance is gonna be like speaking of that platoon situation. Between playing outfield. And DH. Well he's gonna have to work on both learning other positions -- aging which is also -- for him as he was on a National League team. And possibly getting some time off to get other guys in the line -- that is going to be an adjustment form. You know we talked right after he was traded to Oakland he said he's more than willing to learn and play the other outfield positions he really played center field. When he is with the Arizona Diamondbacks. It seems like judges yesterday Casey Brandon McCarthy was the opening day starter really you can -- -- full liter of Oakland's pitching staff that was last year but next year he'll be with Arizona and the Diamondbacks. So I think goes right now do you think the a's need a new face shall we say for the rotation I think it's going to be easy to find a base for the -- starting rotation. Get a guy like Brett Anderson who missed most of last season he's arguably the most talented guy out there. Get a young guy like Jared Parker real up and coming talented pitcher. Who could easily break out and become the face of the -- starting right.
