That would -- Bears football Sonny -- the new man in charge of the program. Penny joins us here they have fresh -- as well we don't know but Tim Lincecum we do know this is Sonny dykes. Sunny. What attracted you to the cal Bears football job. Well you just the potential the program instruments. You got the number one public institution the US. You have that the number one area to -- than US you've got the great city California to recruit high school players from you've got to. You know 475 million dollars with the new facilities and a strong commitment from the university so all the pieces are here to to build a championship football. Last season they stub their -- three win season. So what are the expectations as you're going to this new job what do you expect from this team moving forwards. -- the -- we'll do is get better and I think we've got to improve and we've got to build a strong culture our program we've got to become a program where. Where our players do well both on and off the field you know a guy we've got to do a great job in the classroom. Just recruit players with Phil -- that our culture and and continue to develop them it's going to be. Side it's not magic -- site and anything happens overnight it's going to be a lot of hard work and guys really dedicated themselves each other and improve our program. Your team at Louisiana Tech and everyone knows this by now you led the nation in scoring but as you look at your roster you have returning in the guide to recruiting. When you have offensively that makes you think you might be able to produce some things. People got some good young skilled players are really I think we've got some guys can do some things for the football and an alternate in cornerback position it's going to be important for us to get. To get settled in this spot and we feel like we've got some talented young guys that. That we think can contribute and continue to develop. And then you know and then get the ball skill players can make plays you know got a lot of skilled guys. -- got build some depth on the offensive line it's going to be a bit of concern that there are skilled players that are -- give. You know it's money so yeah I go on FaceBook and answer questions we're gonna Sonny -- and chronicle liked -- what would you ask I don't think it -- always offensive prowess it's going to be much questions on how you run offense. Number one question from a number of the people who London said. How about defense from the sky does he coached defense does he care about defense. Or is it just the video game he tries to outscored. Well I think it probably most people don't know about a so Louisiana Tech was you before last we want black championship and we had -- number -- defensively. And so you know we we realize that you have to yet have a great defense if you wanna win championships all starts there. In this past year gradually the other players so we knew we're gonna have to -- -- people going to be very young on defense with some injuries that happened to us early that hurt our team that. But the good thing is we got good players or -- discarded defense -- and are very somebody who's gonna join our staff I'm really fired up about him and in the energy's going to be your program and he's had success everywhere he's been so you know we're anxious to get started and then again we're gonna be a team -- -- wants to be great offense but. That in our ability to win championships is going to be. They thought they saw how well our defense can play. -- cal Bears fans might now be getting to know you but you know something about the pac twelve you were in -- and Arizona's offensive coordinator at the pac ten that's what it was called at the time. How does that help you and your transition knowing something about this conference before. How does it help you your transition as a head coach -- Little exchange and really has changed a lot since I left you know there's there's been a lot of coaching changes. The league I think has grown a lot of different ways it's it's been much more aggressive just as a -- -- easily dealers -- came in and change the culture of the pac twelve men and continue to grow Italy game and I think as a result. There's a lot of good young coaches exciting brand of football now they're probably the wasn't there before. In as she talked about Taylor it's a very diverse league a league that you have to be able to defend a team like Oregon. One week at a team like Stanford in the next week and a team like Oregon State is going to be a pro style attack and do you see a little bit everything in this league so you better be ready. Are you jump in and you've got to start recruit and I noticed the other day you sign a couple local junior college kids. How important is that to trying to to ramp up the talent get a couple of junior college kids who might be able to contribute quickly. Yeah we've got to find guys -- -- -- get in in and give us some depth of some key positions are defensive line is an area where we've got to build billboard definitely got so that was so those are two big Chinese for us. You know that the response has been great I mean the thing about cal cal sells itself and and we -- as we start to put our coaching staff together here we've we've had a lot more success probably on the road that we anticipated so we're excited about the response forget and and really anxious to get out there and sell the brand. What about the kids who had committed already then there is a change at the head coaching position have you been able to keep those kids who committed to cal. We have we have it's going to be a challenge to hold on all of them but with all of them this far. And so. You know as we start for the staff together I think this kid who would -- even more solid as in who's gonna be coaching them. And -- one that process up hopefully by the end of the week and so they just start to come together we have velocity -- we've got a lot of momentum got five new ones really in the last week and a half. And so things are going well on the recruiting front you know I had a fifteen seconds but. With your offense you have high school quarterbacks or just they're contacting you guys daily -- well I think I can throw that I had -- tell -- we we did a lot of interest from all of the United States so it's good to some degree players in California. And we're just like you --
