Seattle Mayor: 'It'll be really great to bring the Sonics back'
Transcript
Had any direct contact with Chris Hanson or the team. I saw the tweet last night that that kind of got this thing started I understand that the more reports since then I'm actually. You're probably a little bit ahead of that on me because I've been. Thinking about what I'm saying that rather than combing the Internet at tracking down rumors. That. The other is that this is the next piece -- -- the next piece of the puzzle so we've set the stage for. Chris Hanson to go -- a team. From the from the NB yeah whether an existing team -- two expansion. And that's that's been on -- side of the of the -- and we've been waiting to see how that works out just like everyone else. It. I it's pretty -- excitement that's in my yeah. It'll be really great to bring back the Sonics to swap thoughts about the you know my -- always -- -- you'd rather be lucky than good so now I but I had no idea how the timing worked -- this -- or even if it. And I'm still waiting to get. More confirmation -- -- what I've gotten so apologies rumors. And what we also know about big big endeavors like this is. Sometimes things don't work out or don't appear to be -- the first appearance on to step back and wooden went to see what happens. It. -- Well thank you. That's a nice way to answer ask the question. -- we worked really hard on that we have a few principles going -- and I made those clear when I first met Chris Hanson we couldn't jeopardize our general fund. We couldn't go out and get a new -- source for we have to work with an existing authority. And Chris Hanson work with thoughts on that we depart with the counting and done that took a lot of work -- to get the exact same deal -- route to two different. Bodies. And we were you know we got that one as well as you like I let it. New York to meet with David Stern I'm. -- a -- trip was on the way to say. To just say it's brand new game we want try to work together in a -- that's mutually acceptable. So it's been a lot of hard work and and in challenging budget environment to to get where we are I don't think I entered office thinking that. This type of opportunity would present itself and really grateful to Chris -- -- them -- do that so much. So we are just trying to take our opportunities we saw him to do something good for the city. I was interested in having this press conference and getting back and finding out what's going in the NBA you just don't add anything more to have it happen. I really doubt I don't have an inside look -- on this right now so if we get to a point when we get one. Then left to figure out what we championship. But you know they they're probably delicate negotiations. Perhaps maybe that's what we're -- rumors. Maybe it's pure rumor maybe they're delicate negotiations and sometimes it -- delicate negotiations don't -- outsiders including us. Well I put so the rumor that. Midnight last night and that I did not column then and since then I've been working to preparedness so that. -- Because we have somebody prepared the best hundreds of dollars to build. Yes of course we did of course we didn't that that's one of the reasons why we've. Are -- read that expert because of the questions we we call in. You know Robert alum and it would have been involved -- -- and we know we want but the best for them. So we just that particular one of the best -- -- but were only half the equation. You know we will analyze both sides we will look at the pros on all of them gently. The one side of the Olympic -- -- wishes them best and don't have. I doubt that his team did that affect anything. -- oh definitely I mean my understanding is that he's proceeded already with a permanent rights as moving as fast as you can on the the necessary things to build an arena to demonstrate good faith to the end yet. But that only goes so fast I don't think he can make that going faster.
