Matt & Mindi: Ignoring the hype
Matt Maiocco and Mindi Bach report from New Orleans on a focused 49ers team that's had its fun and is ready for work.
-- outcome in -- box here on Wednesday in New Orleans the 49ers team hotel we just got done meeting with players and coaches that first we have to think. Massage envy for their support and at the end of missile hit that we do there is a special promotion for you so be sure to stay tuned. But this is a day that the 49ers players go back to work and a walk through on Tuesday. That really looking forward to getting that back to football and putting all this media circus aside enthusiasm known. Unknown to mankind -- wage and our buses for an hour -- that approach practicing yet everyone's excited to get back out there. And Jim Thompson with the defense of line coach who's in charge of that check for the entire team said that when they went around the security. And and knocked that everyone's door at midnight for curfew. Everybody was in their room and more than half the team was already asleep. It's also a city got to the point where if anyone -- -- knocking them people's doors as you know wanna wake anybody up so. The team appears to be focused Randy Moss said that everybody's -- has been. Sort of it's out of the way now have your fun earlier in the week and it's time to get focused and out and now they get into more about a regular routine they they lifted weights yesterday missing practice facility and now it -- pretty heavyweight as a pretty heavyweights at defensive linemen like Justin Smith and Ray McDonald 2600 pound squat matching out. Your -- yes I am and what is Sammy also I mean there are several. It'll taper -- you think like lack late in the season he'd be tapering. They don't do that because it's not a one time -- it's not like they're running -- hundred yard -- every play. You've got explosion scenario yet you know more about it -- -- and the. A chance to talk to -- NGOs well today and that is really interesting asked him what stands out about. The Ravens offense specifically for him especially with the switch from Cam Cameron Jim Caldwell is offensive coordinator so obviously they're based offenses and -- -- the same. But what strikes him -- help Allen did Anthony said since they didn't industry offensive lineman. In to set in different positions they didn't switch out the -- he's moved him into different positions. He said they certainly been more effective but you've got Ray Rice is a good receiving back as well the check down back and -- Dennis had a very good tight end he sits there. With that they're receiving -- is equivalent of five good receivers and a solid running game. And this'll probably be the most balanced offense not seen this season. Yeah I mean Ray Rice is one of the all time no one of the best backs in the in the game right now and so. You know you it's kind of at similar I guess and -- so the friend -- -- humility there's a lot of different weapons and and I think it's all -- geared around Ray Rice as as it is of foreigners geared around Frank Gore. So the players defense you know I think the approach every week is. Shut down the Iran and and try to make the team the other the opponent is one dimensional as possible you know academy the Ravens one dimensional. Absolutely the one player than that I am focusing on today that we picked up on his mind Brooks and his improved play this season so much attention -- Smith in his sack numbers. But Ahmad Brooks -- Ray McDonald on that left side really important. As well and they can use -- when he took this job the first player he called after watching film was Ahmad Brooks because he saw him -- it to excel in this system. And he certainly has a second team all pro this year I mean he could very well make that difference in the game when you talk about tight -- tennis Canada having a great season. Setting the edge on that left side for Ray Rice and they said they put him in some tough positions where it's make or break in it's up to my face that he's delivered this year and that's kind of relax. Yet in it's it's very interesting that you all they have partners -- very good offseason resigning Carlos Rogers. Bring Alex Smith back. But the one move. That the coaching staff has said was the best offseason move. Was bring back on drugs and so he's you know he's been kind of under the radar but nine pro bowlers on the team that. Great year for him. Would he be looking forward to and these next couple days -- focus on reports on his. Well. And interest in dry -- -- to see the mindset of the team and it's unique go around those those tables and talk -- all the players everybody's available on there's no place for Michael scratch here -- my eyes from the media. So it's interesting to see this other -- carry themselves and everybody seems confident and relaxed in and ready to play put on an allowance we've been here since Saturday does seem like it's been a lot longer -- once again we said there is a problem for massage and he'd like to thank them once again for their sponsorship and you go ahead and tell them what this amazing provides -- -- -- you mentioned that you saw this on -- in the senior next sugar puts crowd at a hot and the sides in B in Campbell. Will be free. Yeah -- and it's it's a free upgrade ballot at Campbell location only. Think -- -- And we will see you on Thursday right here CSN Bay Area dot com.
