We can sit here -- chronicle live presented by Farmers Insurance an old man remember last year how what was the bullpen. But the San Francisco Giants near the end of the season -- -- -- playoff run and on and putting their second World Series in two years one of the key members of that bullpen Javier Lopez. -- man what a stretch he's had. -- the San Francisco Giants let's get things rolling now and head on down to Scottsdale Giants get going with spring training at various Javier Lopez joining us are chronicle live at. I'm here I know it's the first day the first week of spring training what do you try to accomplish in this early part of spring. Basically trotted to stay healthy all ultimately that's the biggest goal you no matter what you do in the off season. All the throwing all the conditioning you do nothing prepares you for standing on your feet your and your spikes for an entire day so that's that's. That's the most important thing you try to do but ultimately it's just make it sure -- -- -- -- ease and everything whether it's you're all pans. Or in the the fielding practice and things like that just don't try to do too much too early. Are you guys on the defending champions everyone we'll have our eyes on you he'll have the target on the backs. And what challenges does that pose for you guys as you head into 2013. Well I think we have a nice refresher from 2010 going into the 2011 spring training. I think there's a lot of media attention going in 2011 and a lot of guys haven't and do a lot of things cover a lot of media appearances and do some different things and maybe that was taken away from them from the preparation on the field but it's you know I think ultimately I think guys are gonna be able to -- settle a bit better going into this spring and ultimately I think the guys are gonna do what they need to do to be ready and that's including myself I think everybody's come minicamp. In great shape and ready to roll we're gonna be down here for a long time with the World Baseball Classic taken part this spring so. You know get it gives funny guys a whole lot of opportunity does that ease into the season and be ready to go April. We saw your numbers the bullpen so integral to the Giants run last year. And at times it wasn't a defined role for everybody but now that Sergio Romo is the close -- how to find -- roles for the rest of the guys in the bullpen. My would like to think there are defined we're gonna see -- goes we're going to be able to throw with three lefties that you would bring NFL back and have a Morris and myself so. There's going to be a lot of mix and match which is great but she was -- play that game he loves to play the the strategy game with that with the other opposing manager so. We're going to be able throw different looks that's in different arm angles and all and it's just so. I feel everything's kind of set up. With Romo being at the back can be just fine you can see is gonna -- set up innings have -- do the same moments and for a few out there and in all the way on down even down accounts Sosa they're really all depends on the starting pitching and they've really done great for us when they eat up. You know those 56 even seven innings are really just sets up the situation a match -- that that really played on our favor. Javier you mention the World Baseball Classic have you decided are you going to play for Puerto Rico the WBZ. Well my intention is be ready for the Jets in 2013. And that's that's the sole focus I have right now. If I feel like I'm gonna be able play and be ready by the time the World Baseball Classic starts that I'll entertain that do wanna play but. Ultimately I don't wanna do that is to sacrifice ability. My ability in 2013 for the Giants that's the main focus I think it's a main focus for most of the guys at the position players might be able to get away with a little bit easier. But as a pitcher you wanna -- treated your work cannon and I guess that you wanna you wanna be able try to go out there and defend your title. I know a lot of guys seem to wanna play for their country that's quite an honor no matter where you are going to no matter what Jersey you're gonna where it's an honor to play for your country. But when you look at the World Baseball Classic is it catching on the players. Think it and I think it is a big deal to do play in that game. I think it's a very big deal for most of the guys again I had the opportunity due in 2009 at a great time it was awesome for me. For my family to put on them the you know Puerto Rican uniform and it was awesome for them and and being able to do it in the home crowd in San -- it was it was a great feeling it's it's closer to the Olympics is we're gonna get. But you know it's something that every player wants it. To put on and have that opportunity to do but ultimately comes down to just the health and again when it comes a pitcher. You wanna make sure you get your work and especially early spring training -- -- there's only so many innings allotted down here I think with 37 pitchers in camp right now. You know so the innings are gonna come at a premium and and you just trying to get your work in and and I think guys wanna do it and I think the -- -- attention is there for most of the guys that. Ultimately everybody's body's gonna respond differently and and regardless of boy your attitude is you're not gonna sacrifice. Since your career but maybe just -- season not on just being able played a tournament. I have 00 last question no baseball question here when your career is over. Willy -- coming FBI agent. While Cameron and -- here's -- do that FBI I think the last should get the FBI is thirty sevenths though I'm 35 now. And -- -- China next year I'm gonna have some serious trouble getting into the bureau but. I don't know we'll see what happens that there's always room for for some outside work ethic with the FBI CIA is someone that will find that are you win the CIA now. Are you secretly masquerading as a spy in in a ballplayers uniform that. That's usually the cart I play with men into the guys locker -- match domino six languages and nobody ever called me on its own so that -- that's when I go with that I am. You know I am a master of many things and and one of them is espionage. Is the next Moe -- look it up if you don't know who that is Javier Lopez of the Giants thanks so much for joining us -- chronicle live and enjoy spring training. Thanks for having appreciate it.
