Chasson Randle to sign 10-day contract with short-handed Warriors

The Warriors' depleted backcourt will soon get a boost.

Golden State will sign former Stanford guard Chasson Randle to a 10-day contract, Randle's agent, Darrell Comer of YouFirst Sports, told ESPN's Jonathan Givony on Sunday.

Randle played for Tianjin in the Chinese Basketball Association this season, and Comer told Givony that his client reached a settlement with the club in order to facilitate his return to the NBA. Randle played 75 NBA games from 2016 through 2019, including 49 with the Washington Wizards last season. He has averaged 5.5 points and 2.0 assists per game in his NBA career.

The Warriors were without a natural point guard in Saturday's win over the Phoenix Suns, playing just eight players. Two-time MVP Steph Curry's return likely won't happen before Thursday, and guard Ky Bowman will miss time with a lateral ankle sprain. Once FIBA gives Randle a letter of clearance, he'll provide brief relief to the Warriors' guard rotation.

Randle previously tried to sign a 10-day contract two times this season, but Tianjin blocked those efforts, according to Givony. The 27-year-old has not played since Jan. 21, with the CBA indefinitely suspended in the aftermath of the country's coronavirus outbreak. Givony noted the CBA season could resume in April, but it might not at all, either.

Nearly 3,000 people have died worldwide as a result of the virus and over 85,000 have been infected, according to CNN. The State Department's Feb. 2 travel advisory advised U.S. citizens not to travel due to the spread of the virus, which the World Health Organization named COVID-19.
