Dave Roberts blasts Dodgers fans after latest loss

Pedro Baez has been one of the Dodgers' most reliable relievers this season.

But based on the reaction he got when he entered from the bullpen on Friday night, you would have thought he was one of their worst.

Pressed into action to start the sixth inning against the Rockies on Friday, Baez was greeted by boos from the home fans.

The reaction stems from three straight poor outings against the Padres and D'backs. On Friday, he returned to form, throwing a scoreless inning and recording all three outs via strikeouts.

But after the Dodgers' 5-4 loss, manager Dave Roberts was furious with how the home fans treated his reliever, who has a 2.53 ERA in 57 innings over 59 games this season.

“I absolutely think it’s ridiculous. That’s something that really (ticked) me off. These are our fans that come here and welcome him with boos. The way he responded was outstanding," Roberts told the media after the game, according to The Associated Press.

Fuses appear to be short among the Dodgers and their fans. The team was 91-36 two weeks ago. But since August 26, they are 1-13. Their grip on the best record in the National League is down to just five games over the Nationals.
