Zach Collins gets hate mail from Warriors fans over Klay Thompson dust-up

Zach Collins doesn't have a lot of fans in the Bay Area.

The Portland Trail Blazers forward drew the ire of Warriors fans last season when he got into an altercation with star guard Klay Thompson. After Thompson was called for an offensive foul for elbowing Collins in the chest, the Blazers big man started jawing at Thompson and then bumped him with his chest. Thompson took exception to the bump and started jawing back at Collins.

The trash talk continued until both were hit with technical fouls.

With the sports world stopped due to the global coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Collins took some time to answer questions on Instagram Live. He shed some light on the altercation with Thompson and noted Dub Nation still sends him "fan" mail.

"The Klay Thompson moment obviously comes to mind," Collins said when asked for a favorite trash-talking moment. "I just kind of -- I don't know, in that moment, I probably said some things I shouldn't have. But, I was in the moment, I was hyped, it was against the Warriors and everybody's trying to beat them. We had been going on a run and I was just like, I didn't care who it was, you were getting it that night if you came up to me. So he said something to me and I turned around and saw red. I just went crazy for a second.

"I got a lot of clout from that. A lot of followers," Collins joked later in the stream, via Jamie Hudson of NBC Sports Northwest. "I got a lot of hate mail from Warriors fans. I still get it to this day. It went on probably the rest of the year."

Thompson and the Warriors got the last laugh over Collins and the Blazers, as the Dubs swept Portland in the Western Conference finals en route to their fifth straight NBA Finals appearance.

A world without sports is rough, but it does give Collins a chance to catch up on all the mail from his adoring Bay Area fan club.
