Warriors point guard Stephen Curry has had a troublesomeright ankle for more than a year now. He tweaked it most recentlyagainst Chicago on Monday and sat out the next game against New York.On Thursday he said on TwitterThanks to NikeBasketball for helping me out with the shoe game. Going to get that anklestrong and 100 percent.Heres Curry from after practice on Friday, talking aboutchanging his shoes and using a different taping technique, among otherankle-related subjects:Question: Can you elaborate on ThursdaysTweet?Stephen Curry: I took a day trip toPortland yesterday to get in the lab and see if theres something about theshoes I was wearing. Maybe they didnt fit my foot right or something. Maybe there was something wecould put in my shoe to make sure I dont turn my ankle to the outsidebecause I naturally have that rotation.RELATED: Curry optimistic about playing against Philly
And so theyre still analyzing all the data that wecollected, and I changed to a different style of Nikes for tomorrow. Hopefully, that will help and I think weve found a fit to avoid those injuries.Question: Whats the new one?Stephen Curry: Its called the Brave, theHyperbrave. Its a little lower and a little wider on my foot and it fits to myfoot a little better than the ones I had been wearing.Question: And you were wearing Hyperdunksbefore?Stephen Curry: That one and another onecalled the Hyperlearners. Theyre still great shoes. Nike. But with my foot itdidnt fit right and being secure on the floor is of the utmost importanceright now.Question: Whats the new taping routine?Stephen Curry: Like Ive done before,Ive done taping and bracing to give it extra security. I dont want it to betoo tight where Im not able to make the moves Im normally making or itchanges the mechanics of my jump shot. Because all that starts at the feet andworks its way up. Im using a different style of tape and kind of anchoring ita little more so it naturally rolls in, so Im not more prone to rolling myankle to the outside if Im running straight-ahead or making a cut or a move orsomething like that. I think it will work.
