Outside linebacker Aldon Smith and the 49ers agreed on Thursday to a restructured one-year contract that will pay his scheduled $9.754 million salary through a series of roster bonuses.
In a salary-cap league with non-guaranteed contracts like the NFL, the offseason is a time teams rid themselves of players not living up to their pay scale.
The 49ers have yet to make any cost-cutting moves this offseason. A year ago, they released veteran cornerback Carlos Rogers to gain cap relief.
49ers tight end Vernon Davis has put his San Jose home on the market, according to the Los Angeles Times.
The home is currently listed for about $2.45 million.
